Throwback to 2018 when I decided to remake a Cube game but didn't get fruther than a room generator

Fruther

it’s beautiful

Thank you!!

this could work if you had subtle blue prince-styled puzzles to figure out which rooms were safe. obv less intense than the prime number stuff in the movie but little hints like the panel patterns or details... did u play the half-life version of this concept

@CocyxSkeleton I definitely think a puzzle within a puzzle style game like blueprince would translate well into a cube game, roguelite but puzzles that might kill you. And I didn't but did hear about it tons, I should play it 👀

wasnt there a movie about this

nah

The cube is a cool film, I'd play that game for real

Bro lets fucking reboot this and make it lean heavy on co-op

honestly this would be one of the best examples of a movie-game adaptation because it translates the concept into gameplay super well

Whoah.

Does it span the entire size? Need to see if I can dig up some ancient screenshots of one I did a long long time ago in 3D Gamestudio. Had the full size, outer wall, moving connection cube between the exit and the outer wall and some more. wish i had the project, still!

It wasn't fully modeled but the manager I had would span infinitely. (or 26x26x26 if I capped it.) It'd just keep track of what roomtype was spawned at that position and cull it if the room you're in can't "see" the cube, and asynchronusly spawn a new one if you opened a door!

If you're on the same axis as another room it will be visible, so horizontal, vertical, forwards/backwards will still render. But if you move down a room then the horizontal/forwards/backwards room will be culled because you wouldn't be able to see them. Worked pretty well!

That's similar to what I did. I had a basic data structure generated at the beginning with random rooms and random math formulas and then depending on where the playercamera was, spawn elements in/out. 3D Game studio wouldn't be able to handle it's full size as dynamic objects.

This would go so hard as a roguelite game, maybe even multiplayer. Leaving shoes, buttons, or laces to mark visited places since there’s no map. An option to etch the walls with keys or other metal things. Random knickknacks spawning with characters to help on the journey.

I'm genuinely seeing this as an amazing coop game idea! 😆

There's a version of that in VR chat where you even can play with many players to escape together.

Do a trap generator then a social/NPC generator then you have a hit.

Good idea, should try to finish it

I wanted to code that for Quest (VR) just to sit in the Cube 🙂 Never found time 😢

great aesthetics so far - immediately wanna play 😍

I love it

that looks awesome

Brooooooooooooooo. @DaveOshry @Phant0mSl0th

Looks really good though!

woooooooow

God, that is beautiful! I would have loved to play it!

For a few years I tried to recreate The Cube from Cube in minecraft. Just a big cube filled with small cubes, some of which were going to have some sort of traps. But I never got even NEAR of getting it done.

@ConorS

I swear to god I saw videos of this online years ago. Incredible work! Just sucks you have to be good at math and use an actual calculator to find the right room if this was ever finished lol

I think we all had the same idea at some point, then you realize what they do in the film to know if a room is trapped is not really applicable into a game 😅

the cube slicer 💀
