Monday, December 18, 2023, 1:17 PM, PDT: 545 DM Low pressure is starting to develop 300 miles off the coast of Oregon. This is the start of the formation of the secondary low, which will emerge and have a southward trajectory. This low-pressure system will move into Southern California on Thursday and Thursday night. As of right now, intensive rapid development is expected within the next 24-30 hours over the Central Pacific. This system will tap into subtropical moisture south of the Hawaiian Islands in the next 32 hours, bringing copious amounts of rain to the southern California region. There is an increasingly elevated chance of thunderstorms on Thursday. The trajectory and positioning of solution models have the system going close to Point Conception early Thursday afternoon into Thursday night, which will provide the perfect setup for rainfall from Santa Barbara down to San Diego. If the main low pressure gets within about 65 to 130 miles of the Channel Islands, rainfall totals will increase across Ventura County, LA County, Orange County, and San Diego County. Rainfall totals are still expected to be between 0.80 to 2.0 inches. However, if thunderstorms do develop, rainfall totals of 1.8 to 4.0 inches seem justified with this particular system. More updates will continue as the system nears our region. The first system is moving into parts of Southern California this afternoon, which will moisten up the atmosphere and prepare us for the second system. There is no offshore flow at all, which is a good sign for further storm development as the lower levels of the atmosphere moisten up. #cutofflow #ElNino #Californiastorms

Tuesday, July 28, 2026 6:15 AM PDT/ 9:15 AM EDT: This beautifully displayed water vapor satellite shows hurricane Genevieve as a powerful category four storm now starting to be connected with the monsoonal flow as it moves into a westward trajectory with thunderstorms over Phoenix, Arizona this morning. She will bring lots of humidity across Southern California, and high heat will continue. Still, she is not having a direct impact on Southern California or Arizona. Still, she is having a strong peripheral effect, with dangerous rip tides from Pismo Beach to San Diego counties, starting Tuesday at 8 PM through Thursday at 7 PM, and moderate south swells of 5 to 8 feet are projected from Santa Barbara to San Diego coastal zones, so be aware of this if you are going swimming this week. The cause is due to the strong El Niño in tandem with the very warm sea surface temperatures of 86° to 92° currently. These tropical conditions will continue to increase across Arizona, Southern California, and Las Vegas in the next 72 hours. The current positioning of the 594 DM high axis over eastern Kansas and northern Oklahoma will continue move Westward over the course of the week building to possibly a 597 DM to 600 DM over western Utah to Bartsow, California bringing the highest heat of the last three week period to Southern California were many valley and major city communities across Central California and Southern California will be between 107° to 119° in addition to unusually high humidity levels of 55% to 60%. will make the heatwave downright potentially dangerous. The major heatwave timeline is from Thursday at 6 AM and escalates until Monday at 7 PM, so keep that in mind. #CAwx #AZwx #Genevieve #heatwave #ElNino

.Jacob Kimmel thinks that the functionality to reverse aging already exists in our epigenome. But then why didn't evolution already optimize for longevity? Jacob explains that if you consider evolution as an optimizer, the gradients flow in a really surprising way. Naively, it seems like evolution should want you to live longer (more time to have babies and care for your kin). Jacob explains 3 complications on the naive picture: 1. Baseline mortality was brutal throughout most of history. Even without aging, you'd likely die from infection, predation, or accident before reaching 50. So there's no signal flowing back from 100 to the genome which incentivizes some selective process to make you live longer, even if it was easy to do. 2. There's selection against fixing just one (but not at all) causes of aging). Because then you have some grandpa who's slightly healthier but still a worse use of resources than the next generation from the gene's eye point of view. 3. Evolution is very limited as an optimizer. The step size (number of variants you can test in parallel) is limited by your step size. And through the most of history, this bandwidth was dominated by selective pressures much more urgent than de-aging (for example, building a better immune system to fight infectious diseases). Full episode with Jacob Kimmel out Thursday. So excited about this one. Jacob's simple 3-point list led to more than half an hour of random digressions, from how many antibiotics were naturally evolved, to how hard evolution actually optimized for intelligence, to how we can actually detect the evidence for some deadly ancestor of HIV in our genome.

Brent touched $91.42 this morning and fell back to $87.96 on a hint of talks. Four tracked ships crossed Hormuz on Sunday. No visible LNG carrier has crossed since Thursday. Those are not one story. The war has split energy into three different recovery clocks. Crude runs on the fastest clock. Gulf exports have already clawed back to 12 to 13 million barrels a day this month, still 32% below the prewar peak, with Saudi Arabia pushing 75% of its flow out through Yanbu. Inventories, bypass routes, reserve releases and dying demand mean lost crude can reappear in days. That is why Brent swings 4 dollars on a mere rumour. It prices the odds of a reopened corridor, nothing slower. Refined products run on a slower clock. A barrel is not diesel. Global refining output ran about 5 million barrels a day below last year through the second quarter, American refineries are at 96.2% utilization, and distillate stocks sit 11% under the five year average even after last week's build. There is no strategic reserve of conversion capacity. LNG runs on two clocks at once. Near term, seven laden Qatari carriers float inside the Gulf holding 0.57 million tonnes, inventory that exits in a burst if a corridor opens and forces production cuts if it stays shut. Medium term, Iran's March strikes knocked out 2 of Qatar's 14 trains, 17% of its capacity, for three to five years by QatarEnergy's own count. The world has replaced roughly three quarters of the lost Gulf volume from elsewhere, so this is not simple shortage. Substitution is real, rate limited, and paid in demand destruction. China's gas use is down 4%. And Henry Hub sits near $2.89 with storage above average, not because America is immune but because its gas is export gated. Abundance behind a liquefaction door is not global supply. The scarce asset is no longer the molecule. It is time to usable energy. Brent prices the barrel. The crisis prices everything the barrel must become next.

🔻 JUNE 14, 2026. The media will tell you it is a birthday party. They will show you the octagon on the South Lawn. They will talk about UFC fighters and celebrity guests. They will reduce today to entertainment. They are wrong. What is happening today is not a celebration. It is a demonstration. In the last 72 hours, one man authorized the following: A military strike in Venezuela that eliminated the most wanted gang leader in the Western Hemisphere. Swift. Lethal. No warning. No negotiation. Dead. A peace agreement with Iran — signed today — that ends a war, reopens the Strait of Hormuz, and restores global oil flow. No money exchanged. No concessions. Signed on HIS terms. A 92-foot steel structure erected on the White House South Lawn — the first combat arena ever built on presidential grounds in 250 years of American history. All on the same day. His 80th birthday. Flag Day. America's 250th anniversary. You think this is coincidence? A source close to the National Security Council: "The Iran signing was ready on Thursday. It was HELD until Sunday. The Venezuela strike was greenlit Wednesday night — execution was delayed until Friday evening for maximum 72-hour media cycle alignment. The UFC structure was approved in March. Every element of June 14 was choreographed to land simultaneously." This is not a president celebrating his birthday. This is a Commander-in-Chief demonstrating to every nation on Earth — on the same day — that he can: Kill your leaders. End your wars. And throw a fight on his front lawn while doing it. FOUR criminal indictments. TWO impeachments. ONE FBI raid. 91 felony charges. They took his passport. They took his mugshot. They told the world he would die in prison. Today he is 80 years old. He is in the White House. His enemies are in courtrooms. And the world is watching a man who cannot be stopped. The date was chosen. The sequence was planned. The message is clear. NOTHING AND NO ONE CAN TOUCH HIM. CODE: FLAG-250 / STRIKE-0612 / HORMUZ-0614 / OCTAGON-WH / UNCHAINED BandOfBrothersQ
