Some historical context to this song. In 1936, the Franco fascists waged war on the democratic Spanish Republic. Many Irish went to Spain to fight for or against the Fascists. The Blueshirts, (who became @FineGael) were Fascist volunteers and IRA members joined the Quince Brigada
