Tamil Nadu releases more than 2 lakh 15 thousand Olive Ridley turtles during the turtle nesting season 🐢 As we officially close the Olive Ridley Turtle nesting season, here are few updates on the conservation initiatives by the Tamil Nadu Forest Department. This year we had set up 53 turtle hatcheries in 8 districts, the highest so far. With enthusiastic participation of hundreds of volunteers who patrolled beaches through nights the Forest Department collected 2,58,755 turtle eggs. We have successfully released 2,15,778 turtle babies on their forever journey in deep oceans ( last year it was 1,82,917 ) This truly is a milestone in our turtle conservation programme as this marked the largest number of turtles ever released. ALERT: Frog biologists have been released from their alleged 15-hour hostage situation after being kidnapped by a father-son duo. Joseph Charles Henrichsen, 49, allegedly approached 2 women with an AR-15-style rifle as they were conducting a Forest Service study of Northern California frog habitats. Joseph ordered them to raise their hands and then zip-tied them behind their backs. They were then forced to a nearby white camping trailer, where Joseph's son, Phoenix Henrichsen, 23, was clearing space for them. Joseph then allegedly took one of the biologists, while Phoenix watched over the other, several miles towards Lake Siskiyou in the Forest Service’s Nissan Frontier. He used her cell phone to call a Forest Service ranger and say, “I’ve taken two fed biologists hostage from the Forest Service.” After requesting an FBI interrogator, a standoff began and escalated when Joseph claimed to have a grenade and threatened to use it. Around 1 AM, one biologist was released, and roughly six minutes later, the other was released. Phoenix surrendered around 2:30 AM, and his father did shortly after. Both men face up to a $250,000 fine and a maximum sentence of life in prison if convicted.
