A 19-year-old woman was allegedly stabbed to death by her father during a counselling session in Uttar Pradesh's Banda district after she insisted on living with a man she had married against her family's wishes, police said. The shocking incident took place in the Badousa police station area on Thursday and has triggered widespread outrage across the district. According to police, the woman had been in a relationship with a young man from her neighbourhood. On May 18, she left home with him, prompting her family to file a complaint. A case was subsequently registered and police launched a search operation to trace her. Banda Superintendent of Police Palash Bansal said the woman was found safe on June 12 and brought back as part of the legal process. Her parents were informed and were called for discussions and counselling with police officials. During the interaction, the woman reportedly maintained that she wanted to stay with her husband. Police said she had married the man after leaving home and was unwilling to return to her family despite repeated attempts by relatives and officials to persuade her otherwise. According to investigators, tensions escalated during the counselling session when her father suddenly attacked her with a sharp-edged weapon, stabbing her in the abdomen. The injured woman was rushed to the Atarra Community Health Centre and later referred to a medical college for advanced treatment. However, doctors declared her dead. SP Bansal said that based on a complaint lodged by the victim's mother, police registered a murder case against the woman's father. A 40-year-old guest lecturer was allegedly murdered by her male friend, who later set her body on fire inside a car before dying by suicide, near Jinkebachchahalli village in Doddaballapur taluk on Saturday. The deceased has been identified as Saroja (40), a guest lecturer at a private college in Devanahalli. The accused, Ramanjinappa (45), a relator, is suspected to have died by suicide by jumping in front of a train. Using the chassis number, police traced the vehicle owner, identified as Suresh Kumar, who informed them that he had received an alert about an accident involving the car. His attempts to contact Ramanjinappa were unsuccessful. Later in the evening, railway police alerted local authorities about the recovery of a mangled body near the tracks near Bidadi. The decreased was identified as Ramanjinappa through his Aadhaar card and ATM card. Piecing together the sequence of events, police concluded that the accused murdered Saroja and later died by suicide while attempting to escape. In a shocking incident, a 32-year-old woman from Assam was allegedly murdered by her live-in partner and his brother in Narmadapuram district, police said. The victim, identified as Rajina Begum, was a resident of Lakhimpur district in Assam and was working for a private company in Telangana. During her time there, she met the accused, Nitesh Yadav, a resident of Narmadapuram. The two later entered into a live-in relationship. According to police officials, the woman had allegedly been in a relationship with Yadav under the promise of marriage. When she began insisting on marriage, Yadav, along with his brother Sachin, allegedly killed her. Police said the accused strangled the woman to death in Makhan Nagar on February 25. In an attempt to evade arrest, they allegedly disposed of the body in a river nearly 80 kilometres away. The incident came to light only recently following an investigation. Both accused have since been taken into custody, and a case of murder has been registered against them. Further investigation is underway.
