The SEC tried to classify Ethereum validators as broker-dealers and securities issuers needing to register. It cost @NasdaqBTCS heavily, comment letters, subpoenas etc. If they kept going, even running open-source code on a Raspberry Pi would've made you a target. A total betrayal of their mission.
