Time for another rant from JJ Redick. This time, he goes off on the narrative that the foul rules favor the offensive player.

@jj_redick I mean… are people really complaining about the rule book? The problem is refs picking and choosing how and when they enforce them. Trae Young still makes a living jumping back into people. Defensive fouls are called on a kick out all the time, some players can do it some can’t.

@jj_redick Rules that favor the Offensive Players: 1) Lowering shoulder into the defender, where a defensive foul is being called. That used to be an Offensive Foul or non call 2)The ripped through is still called 3) Carrying; what Giannis is doing is carrying 4)4 Step Gather/Traveling

@jj_redick JJ - a little too passionate while also too offsides .. here are the rules or non-calls that heavily favor the offensive player: - Contact (benefit of doubt to offensive player) - Landing space (near impossible to contest now) - carry / travel (“gather”) - Def 3 sec - take foul

@jj_redick Those rules are just adjustments back to playing basketball. They are proof of how players were abusing the rules to create fouls. They are still doing this today and so there is still more work to be done.

@jj_redick On paper they are no longer fouls. But Trae still gets that call. The leg kick is 50/50 called. The refs are still calling most of these fouls.
