We had a warm dry westerly (#Chinook) flow prior to the cold front's arrival. Cold denser air arrived from the N (left in this view) & pushed underneath the Chinook like a snow plow, elevating it & causing it to cool below the dew point to create the upper set of clouds. #abstorm
