Democrats allege Tether is in bed with Trump, yet you still can't use it in the US "Cantor Fitzgerald owns approximately 5% of Tether and they manage the bulk of Tether's reserves. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, his founder previously ran Cantor Fitzgerald, and he is now the Commerce Secretary. So he has very close ties to the Trump government." "And former White House crypto advisor Bo Hines, who was under David Sacks, now runs Tether's American subsidiary. So Democrats think that there's a political motivation or ties here and that Tether is in bed with the Trumps." "So Blumenthal, the head of this report, is asking whether those relationships influence the government's treatment of Tether. That is an allegation in a line of inquiry. It is not a proven conflict." "We got the Genius Act, which very strictly legislates on who can launch stablecoins, how stablecoins can operate, who will be allowed to be available in the United States. And last time I checked, the largest stablecoin on planet Earth is Tether, USDT, and is not compliant with Genius." "So dare I ask, if Tether was actually successfully in bed with the Trump administration and getting favorable treatment, don't you think that we'd be able to use Tether in the United States? We can't."

Tether bought more gold in six months than most central banks on earth "Tether reportedly purchased more than 27 metric tons of gold during the first half of 2026, bringing their total owned gold up to 146 tons. What I found interesting, only China, Poland and Uzbekistan reportedly bought more among actual central banks, and Tether's buying was the same as Kazakhstan" "But listen, Tether makes most of their money by collecting money from people minting Tether, then taking the money they collected and putting it into short term treasuries. Yields high, 4% or 5%" "They make billions of dollars with 100 employees or less. One of the most successful businesses on the planet"

Just watched Saifedean Ammous talk from Bitcoin 2025 and it’s worth your time. He takes on the idea that Tether is somehow bullish for the US dollar—and dismantles it. Even in the most optimistic scenario, where Tether grows 100x and buys massive amounts of Treasuries, the impact on US debt is tiny. But here’s where it gets interesting: Tether is stacking Bitcoin. Quietly, steadily. And over time, those Bitcoin reserves may outpace the dollar ones. If that happens, Tether doesn’t just stay pegged—it could revalue upward. A dollar-plus stablecoin, backed by Bitcoin, not Treasuries. His point? Tether isn’t rescuing the dollar. It might actually be helping the world move away from it. “The real risk to Tether isn’t volatility. It’s US default. And Bitcoin is the hedge.” If you want to understand the shifting dynamics between stablecoins, fiat debt, and Bitcoin—this talk lays it out clearly.
