I had never really thought about it but muskets are just shooting little cannon balls. This makes total sense.

"Boy, I sure would like a golfball sized entry wound over 5.56!" -said no one ever.

Muskets are 50 caliber bullets. Yes, slow, but holy crap they can tear you up.

The only point that matters is that the British Land Pattern musket was the *state of the art military weapon* at the time the 2A was written. The Founders intended that citizens possess the same weapon as the most powerful army in the world. Any talk of ARs is a red herring.

They heavily underestimate how dangerous muskets were. They just think "one shot, shorter range means safe".
