I am hoping this is the new standard of modding we can hope for in the short term. I see a future where pretty much most popular games have a vr mod that eventually will be cheap enough and easy enough for regular players to try. I think that's a turning point

Yeah, this year we're getting some absolute gems in VR mods: Titanfall 2, RE4 Remake, RE9 Requiem (which will soon get an improved version), improved versions of RE2 Remake, RE3 Remake, RE7 (and soon RE8), (great gameplay-wise) Max Payne 2, a new Cyberpunk mod... With these mods even UEVR looks poor :P

This is really a good mod but I wish I could remapping the jump button, I cannot really slide jump. Other than that, the locomotion is perfect and even better than any AAA studios

Finally, after all these years, GTA San Andreas VR has arrived on Quest 3 standalone 🤯 But not officially and not thanks to Meta or Rockstar, but thanks to a modder GeT_RiCh (creator of the VR mod for GTA Vice City on PCVR and Quest) who in a few weeks did something that large corporations had not been able to do before - he created a mod that added a VR mode to the game and ported it to Quest 3 standalone 🤩 Modders once again show that nothing is impossible for them 😃

This is Half-Life: Alyx – running natively on my Quest 3 standalone 🤯 Modder Zer0K, the creator of the Half-Life 2 VR port for Quest, has gone a step further and decided to bring the latest installment in the series - and one of the most famous VR games, HL: Alyx - to the Meta's standalone headset. He just released an early test version and now everyone can see for themselves what the Quest 3 is capable of 😮 Keep in mind, however, that this isn't the final version of the mod yet, it isn't fully playable and may suffer from frame drops - though it is a complete port of the PC version. At this stage, it serves more as a proof of concept, demonstrating that something like this can work even on a low-power, three-year-old headset. The modder hopes that this mod has good potential for future optimization and will definitely perform better. This is also proof that we live in times where everything is possible for VR 🤩 An early test version of the mod can be downloaded from here, of course it will require the original Half-Life: Alyx PCVR files and a lot of free space on your Quest's hard drive - prepare at least 70 (!) Hands down the best consumer vr treadmill I’ve tried, and I’ve been very skeptical of them in the past. This is the first one where I could genuinely see myself using this EVERY time I play VR. I didn’t have to relearn how to walk, or lean forward, I could full on sprint and jump, and the tracking was extremely accurate because it’s using streamvr feel trackers. And apparently any flat foot shoes should work with these. #vr #quest3 #gaming

Half Life Alyx is incredible. I've never seen visuals this good in VR, not even on the PSVR2, everything is so detailed and interactive in ways that I've never experienced in a game before. This HAS to be experienced to really be understood, mindblowing level of immersion.

The sense of presence in VR is something amazing. And it is what convinces me that sooner or later, VR will succeed. VR is now in one of its down moments. That's why, in these harsh days, I wanted to get back to feeling what made me fall in love with this technology: presence and immersion. I took some very good-looking PCVR experiences, like Half-Life: Alyx, or AirCar, and tried them at the maximum resolution possible on my Dell Pro Max T2 Tower, featuring an #NVIDIA RTX 6000 graphics card. Until a few months ago, I was using my old laptop, which started to show throttling issues, so I was used to lowering the render resolution, while this time, I was moving the slider up and up. The results have been astonishing: even a demo like AirCar made me in awe again, and Half-Life: Alyx was as immersive as I have ever tried it. As much as I love standalone VR, because I think it helped a lot in democratizing the technology, the WOW sensation that you can try on PCVR today is still unbeatable. Probably a good compromise between the two can be cloud rendering, but we still have to wait for it to become a reality. The sense of being somewhere else is a wonderful sensation, and everyone I demoed VR to all these years has been amazed by it, too. And every day, something makes me feel "there" (like today), I remember why I love this technology and why one day it will have a higher adoption. Sure, there are a lot of problems to solve, but I'm convinced one day it will happen. When? Zelda BOTW VR Mod Releasing In 2 Days! 5 years ago, Crementif began doing the “impossible”. Trying to port one of the greatest games of all time into full 6DOF VR with motion controls. But being a Wii U game, this was an entirely different kind of challenge. Through way too many sleepless nights, Crementif stayed with it, and is finally releasing his mod free and open source in 2 days! Here’s just a few of the features: - Full stereo-rendering with 6DOF (not AER). - Full VRIK, hands and arms support. You can drip yourself out in all the fanciest clothes. - Fully and physically wield weapons, torches and bokoblin arms into combat. - Gestures to equip and throw weapons. - Use motion controls to interact with the world to solve puzzles or start fires. - Optional third-person mode. - Large mod compatibility. BetterVR only modifies the code and no game data. Most other mods should be compatible. Zelda BOTW has some of the best physics and in VR, a whole new world of what you can do opens up.

For people who don’t get the 2D gaming on virtual monitors in VR use case: HMDs have the potential to be the ultimate monitor for any content. Any aspect ratio, any resolution, any size, it’s all “native” in vr I get to play my game on a massive screen while I have spatial awareness, see my wife, take a sip of coffee, and have depth correct rendering content in my room. If and when I choose to, I can “turn off” my surrounds and go into a virtual environment. It’s MR by default, VR by choice Nobody has really taken this use case all that seriously and optimized the hardware/software around it. Now, it seems like Valve is. Also some context: I’m streaming SW Jedi Fallen Order at 4k 90fps my PC to my Vision Pro, and playing the audio thru my surround sound speakers. It’s the best of ALL worlds

Today I tried VR sim racing for the first time and it completely blew my mind 🔥 After just a few minutes I basically disappeared from my studio and got fully immersed in racing. VR lets you visually sit inside the car, and with the wheel and pedals you actually feel like you’re driving it. At first you’re mostly learning the car and the track. Remembering where to brake, where you can push the speed, how the corners flow. You slowly start to understand the car, feel its limits, and figure out what it’s capable of. That’s so cool. After about 2 hours things slowly started to come together. That feeling when you nail a corner is incredibly satisfying. And when you hit 300 km/h in an F1 car, it looks and feels insane. Honestly this was one of the coolest tech experiences I’ve had in a long time. VR + sim racing hardware is on another level. If you’re into cars, gaming, or VR, I highly recommend trying it at least once.

"This is not the end of VR. It's not collapsing. If you pay attention to what's going to be coming out from Meta and others over the next 12 months, you're going to see a lot of progress." Palmer Luckey gives his latest perspective on the VR industry: John: "How are you thinking about VR these days? Everyone's sort of writing down their investments and pulling back." Palmer: "I will challenge your premise there, which is that people are pulling back. I think that's driven mostly by people sensationalizing Meta firing a bunch of people." "They got rid of 10% of the Reality Labs team in one layoff. Remember that they have something like 8% or 9% annual churn naturally and organically, not including firings. So what you're really talking about is basically pulling six months of churn forward into a single month. And they're still spending more on VR than anybody by an order of magnitude." "Meta and Sony and Apple and Google and all of these other companies are going to be hitting the [Apple Vision Pro] level of visual fidelity. They're going to be doing it with headsets that are far smaller, far lighter than what you see from Vision Pro. And I actually remain very optimistic."
