James Cameron spent too much time making Avatar films. I’m just going to come out and say it! It doesn’t mean the Avatar films are bad. It doesn’t mean Cameron wasted his time. I’m just saying the *best* use of Jim’s time would’ve been to make other films, like Titanic or T2.

Hollywood’s wildest plot twist wasn’t in the script. During Titanic filming, someone spiked the crew’s clam chowder with PCP. Dozens ended up in the hospital including James Cameron and Bill Paxton. There was a tripping, conga dancing, and freaking out while Leo & Kate were safely off-set. Still unsolved. Who does that?! What would you do? Let it slide or figure out who did it?

For him, cost-saving isn’t about “laying off VFX staff” but about “doubling their speed to completion on a given shot.” With AI integrated into VFX workflows, Cameron told Meta’s CTO Andrew Bosworth in April 2025 that the “cadence [can be] faster and your throughput cycle is faster and artists get to move on and do other cool things.” Cameron joined the board of Stability AI to learn new generative AI tools and figure out how Hollywood can adopt the technology (he obviosuly previously pioneered VFX with The Abyss, Terminator, Avatar and Titanic).
