Robert De Niro originally wanted to play Max Cherry in Jackie Brown, the role that eventually went to Robert Forster. However, Quentin Tarantino had written the role with Forster in mind and had already promised him the part. Tarantino explains… “I wrote Jackie Brown, and I decided at some point in writing the script that Robert Forster would be terrific as Max Cherry. So, while I’m still writing the script, I bump into Robert Forster - we go to the same coffee shop. ….so I decided I’m gonna give him the part, because I figure, look, this would be a big, big deal part. So if I don’t give him the part, then once I’m done with it and it gets out in the town, then it’s gonna be Gene Hackman and Paul Newman and people like that, and it would be pretty hard to say no to. But if I just give him the part right now, I’ve got the juice to get it through, and now I can’t take it back because I wouldn’t be a man of my word. So to lock myself into that decision, I give it to him before I finish writing it. And then now comes the time to do it. Robert De Niro reads it, and he wants to be in it, but he wants to play Max. And I go, “Well, look, you would be a fantastic Max, but I’ve already given that to Robert Forster, and I’m a man of my word. I can’t take it back.” Now, De Niro is very much a man of his word, so he understands that. He gets that. And he’s just like, “Yeah, yeah. That’s just disappointing. It’s just regretful.” I go, “What?” “Well, just because, you know, you were thinking about him, so you wrote it for him. But if we had had more dinners and hung out a little bit more, then you would have been thinking about me and you would have written it for me. And I understand what happened, but that could have been changed if we had spent more time with each other before this.” And so he kind of gives me the – “just think about it for a couple of days, all right? - and then let’s talk again. Maybe Bob (Robert Foster) could play Louis, the other guy.” So then I actually have Bob read Louis with me, and then read Max. And if that could work, maybe that could work. But no, everything that made him perfect for Max made him wrong for Louis. And so I get on the phone with De Niro — and I go, “Yeah, you know, I explored that. But no, everything about him that makes him perfect for Max makes him wrong to play this ex-convict guy.” And he goes, “Yeah, yeah, I get that. I get that, I get that, I get that. Okay, so tell me about this Louis character.” And I go, “You would consider playing Louis?” “Yeah, it’s a good character. It’s a good movie. I wanna be part of it. It’s a good character. I wanted the other character, but yeah, this is a good character. I’d be happy to play it.” I go, “Well, you didn’t let me know that before.” He goes, “Well, I didn’t wanna let you off the hook. I wanted you on the hook. But now if that ship has sailed, then let’s talk about Louis.” And then it was a done deal.”

Denzel Washington’s epic monologue towards the end of Training Day was largely improvised on set. Director Antoine Fuqua was so blown away by his performance, he says he thinks he "forgot to yell cut”. He explains… “That’s Denzel. He was just in his zone. I mean, that was one of those moment...people talk about AI. Those are the moments where you go...it's a great tool. It's gonna be a great tool, I think...but the emotion, and the moment that an actor can bring - you can't predict that. That's something that's just inside of Denzel. And when that came out, I was just like - I hope I got it. I just turned to my operator - who was shaking- I looked over at the guy - I was like, “please tell me you got that.” Because that was the take. That was it. There was no other take - I mean, how do you tell an actor like that, that that wasn't good enough? …He walked over to me, and he just had this look in his eyes. I was like, “you good?” He said, “you good?” I said, “Yeah…” Some of that was in the script, but he flipped it the way he did it. "Putting cases on all you." He kind of added some things in there. And then he just went into a whole other zone with the whole King Kong thing- with Pelican Bay - Denzel started that. That was Denzel. That was him, man. He just kind of lit up, and I think I forgot to yell cut. I was just watching it, because everybody started walking away, and I'm just watching him, and then he lights a cigarette - and he's talking - and I'm just watching him. I think at some point he probably looked at me like, you going to cut? And I'm like, “oh yeah, yeah, cut.” He was still in it. That's the thing with Denzel. He was so Alonso…I'm just watching him for a while because I didn't know what else he was going to do. It was just so magical. And then I think he looked up at me and I was like, “Okay, cut, cut.”

Tucker Carlson: Remembering Charlie Kirk - A Life of Faith and Courage "Quickly about Charlie, I've known him since he was a teenager, and just an amazing person, but the two things that stick out, he's a Christian man. We talked about that a lot, including, you know, just the other day. There's a lot of pressure on public people, people who run huge, you know, hundred million dollar a year non-profits, and there are a lot of pitfalls and traps." "That's why so many of them are destroyed, and Charlie really did, without, you know, betraying details, like he walked the line for real. It was the topic of many conversations between us, because I've seen so many people destroyed. You know, most people are destroyed by power, and he wasn't, and I just really admire that." "I mean, to his last moments, you know, in order, he cared about God, his wife, and his children, and then his country. So, and that was totally real, completely real. I can affirm that, because I just talked to him about it so much, and I admire that, and he's a model, really." "I mean, he didn't have hate in his heart, and it was funny, and again, it's one of the reasons I couldn't stop looking at these videos last night. People were describing the opposite of what he was. He was filled with hate." "No, and if you talked to him about people who had attacked him, or who were truly his enemies, up to, and I think including the people who assassinated him yesterday, he would never, ever express hate, ever. He would always turn to, no, this person has been led astray. This person is clearly possessed by dark forces." "This person is a perpetrator, but also a victim of evil. I mean, that really was his worldview. That's the Christian worldview, and he expressed that in public, and especially in private, and I think that faith, which was completely real, not the fake faith that you see on display so often, but a real one, that was the root of his courage, and he had real courage." "He loved being with people who disagreed with him, not theoretically with them, but physically with them, you know, like close enough to smell. He would wait right in the middle of everything. I mean, I could tell you a million stories that I saw, but that was absolutely real." "Like, he loved people, even people who hated him, and people he loved, he was the rare person who was willing to tell them what he thought was true. I mean, he really believed, as a political matter, by the way, that, you know, I don't think he had animus toward anybody in no other country, but he really believed in his own country, and the obligation of his government to stand behind his country. He was truly America first in the nicest, most decent, non-ideological, but sincere way." "He was one of the only people, I mean, truly one of the only people to go to the president, whom he loved. He loved Donald Trump, like, personally as well, and I think the president really loved him in a real way, but he was one of the only people to go to the Oval Office and say, sir, I totally understand, and think Iran's really bad, but a war with Iran is not, you know, is something that could really hurt our country. I mean, boy, that was an unpopular position." "He didn't need to express it. Oh, of course, and he did it again. He didn't have some weird agenda. He wasn't mad at anybody. He was for his country, and he was for doing the right and wise and difficult thing, and he said that. He went to the Oval Office to say that." "He took massive, massive abuse from his own donors, which is also something that you don't see. He was one of the very few people, very few people I have met who combined a, like, a love for everyone involved with strong views. So, again, he was not animated by anything creepy or weird." "I mean, you knew him intimately, so you know this is true. If you talked to him off camera, he would say, you know, I really, like, I love whoever I'm talking about, but I think this is wrong. It's immoral." "It's bad for everybody involved, both sides, and he would say that, and he could say that because it was sincere. It was completely sincere, but I cannot overstate the amount of attacks he took privately over this, like, absolutely for real, and having lived in Washington most of my life and seen people run non-profits, I've never met one who was willing, stand up is too strong. He wasn't confrontational, but he would just say, no, I'm sorry that you feel that way, but I think this is the right thing." "The people we represent, which is mostly young people, they believe this, and I believe it also. It was brave, but loving at the same time, and I'm not sure he made a lot of headway, by the way. I mean, I think he made real enemies in doing that, but his view didn't change." "Anyway, he's just a wonderfully decent, loving man. That is true."

I asked Dallas Mavericks GM Nico Harrison four questions today at his end-of-season press conference: Me: “You said me and Coach Kidd are aligned, you know the player(s) that he likes. But when it comes to a trade of this magnitude, it’s the main player that led y’all to the finals last season, so I wanted to ask you, what did that conversation look like at the 11th hour when you told him that y’all would be trading Luka Doncic, and do you think it was fair to him to have y’all’s entire team to be built around Luka, and then in the middle of the season him having to pivot to a completely different player to try to make the title run again?” Harrison: “I think there’s some difficulties anytime when you do a trade that big during the middle of the season. We saw it when we traded for Kyrie a couple years ago. Sometimes trades take a little longer to really see how good a trade it was. But I also know his connectivity to Anthony Davis. He won a championship with him with the Lakers. I know his admiration for him as a defensive player, and so I wasn’t worried about that.” Me: “What did y’all’s conversation look like when you let him know?” Harrison: “It was really brief. I just told him the reasoning behind it and let him know, and he understood and he got geared up to start white boarding to get ready to see how we would play with Anthony Davis.” Me: “Do you feel like he agreed with those reasons?” Harrison: “I don’t think it’s about agreeing, but he aligns with how I think in terms of defense wins championships. That’s how he feels. He also aligns with the philosophy of versatile style of play. And so it really wasn’t about agreeing or disagreeing, it was about ‘I see the vision, let’s go.’” Me: “Defense is one thing that’s been talked about so many times when you’re referring to this trade. With you trading Luka, in a way you’re betting on Anthony Davis to help you guys but it’s also you thinking AD would help more than Doncic did. Outside of defense, why are you betting against Luka Doncic not being able to bring y’all a title when he was here?” Harrison: “It’s more about AD…I’m not going to bet against Luka or speak negatively towards him. He’s not here anymore. But it’s the belief that I have in the guys that are in this locker room.”

🍊‘s friend reflecting on why 🍊 likes Ziyu so much [loose translation] 🍊: This was like an event, you know that opening day I talked about, and after it ended they had an after party where they got to eat and stuff. So it went like this. Because that day there were also some producers etc. present, after they finished eating, when people started to socialize, everyone would go seek some of the producters, directors, etc. to add their WeChat. But he (Ziyu) just wouldn‘t go. So that time I went to tell him, since it was after his contract termination, that he should seize this chance. I said „Look everyone is adding each other‘s WeChat, you should also go talk to some!“ but he just answered that he‘s not good at this kind of thing, that he isn‘t used to doing this. After I went to tell my friend all of this. I said: „I can‘t understand why he would say that, such a good chance why would he not seize it?“ My friend just answered me: „If he did go seize this chance you might not like him anymore. The reason he’s the way he is, is exactly because he‘s different from the others. Things he doesn‘t want to do, he won‘t do, he‘s a kid full of personality. If he was the same as everyone else, why would you still like him? He wouldn‘t be Ziyu anymore.“ That moment I thought she made so much sense. Because you know at the beginning, Ziyu would never do fanservice. He really doesn‘t. He will do everything he has to do as an idol but he wouldn‘t really do fanservice. At first I would even be a bit sad about this because all my friends‘ idols were all super good at fanservice. But my friend would just ask me „Would you rather him be greasy like that other person or would you prefer him stay like his current self?“ I would just answer „Well, I would prefer him to stay the same.“ and she‘d just say „Yeah, because if he‘d be like that it wouldn‘t be him anymore.“ — #Ziyu #梓渝 ༘⋆✿

🐹Jimin and I have completely different workout styles. I keep it neat and tidy, I’m like “today, I will hit all three chest exercises, then move on to shoulders and abs, all in a flash.” It’s a bit short, even I think it’s a bit short, but I do about 30 minutes and head out. But Jimin works out, like a rice cooker, “hisssssss~~~” he was working out like this. So I asked him, “Jimin, when you work out like that, is that a workout or a rice cooker finishing cooking? I don’t really get it.” Then there was this one time when we were playing a game, and he suddenly said he needed to go somewhere. I said, “Where are you going?” Anyway, he said this was his last round of the game. When I asked where he was going, he said he couldn’t tell me. “No, where are you going? Why is it a secret from me?” “Ah, I just can’t, I just can’t tell you, hyung,“ Jimin said. That’s when I got a hunch. When Jimin works out, I don’t exactly bother him, but I do keep striking up conversations with him next to him. “Jimin, that’s not how you work out. Lifting such a light weight is a problem. You’re not holding dumbbells, it’s like you’re holding the Earth, you’re lifting air. Are cicadas coming from somewhere? I guess the rice is ready, Jimin.” I teases him a bit, but I don’t interrupt him when working out. Do I? I don’t bother him when I am exercising. I am not sure about when he’s working out, but I don’t bother him when I am exercising. Maybe I am a bad person? but I am not that bad though? I guess Jimin felt like he’s being interrupted, so he kept it a secret from me and went to work out. “Okay, I get it. Let’s just play the game up to this point.” So I turned the game off right away, and since I thought Jimin might go there, so I went to work out. Then he asked, “How did you know I was coming?” So this was a little episode we had 😄 #JIN (Jin is so funny 😆)

Inspired talking about Skewmond and" the best jungler in the west" debate Q: Everyone was talking a lot of Skewmond, and I would like to know about: do you believe like the series put an end to any debate about the best jungler in the West? Inspired: To me, there was never a debate. I knew that I’m always the best, but I think Skewmond is a good player. I wouldn’t say that he had any phenomenal series, though, this tournament. I think he, against T1, he still made a lot of mistakes. When he was stronger, he didn’t really try to fight enemies, and or sometimes just over committed a bit, and I think G2 won against T1 just by waiting for T1 to make mistakes. I think today, I think Skewmond played well in the team fights. I think every time he was on my screen and we’re like skirmishing and team fighting, I think he did a good job. But I think just like team wise, and like how they all played together as a team and use their jungler was wrong. And it’s hard to say, as I always said, that don’t really know who’s there like which jungler is good because you don’t really know what was his idea beyond the game plan, what his teammates wanted to do. But it just seems like they were not connected well enough, and on top of that, as I said, I think the drafts were not that great. So yeah, I think he’s a good player, but I think they need to work more on team synergy in order to actually pressure when they’re strong if they want to be like the best in the world, because I think they definitely can, but need to work a bit more. I love getting to know Secretary Rubio like this! Katie Miller asked him two questions: 1. Who do you think is the funniest in the whole cabinet? 2. Who’s your best friend in the administration? 1. First answer: "There’s I think there’s three finalists. I have to say three. So I think the VP is funny. Everybody’s got their own style. And I think the VP can be very funny. I think Bessent in his own way can be very funny. And I mean in his own way. He’s got a different type of way of presentation. And I think Bobby Kennedy is very funny. Bobby has some of the greatest stories you’ll ever hear. It’s unbelievable stories that he’ll tell and you listen to these stories. They’re like that didn’t really happen. Oh, no, but it did. The guy has lived an extraordinary life. Like I was, how is this not a movie? I mean it can’t even be a movie. It would have to be a miniseries because he has so many incredible stories and many of them are not just funny because they happen, but they’re just fascinating to me. But he can be funny too." 😂 2. Second answer: "So the best way to answer that question, I have a lot of people. So I’ve known JD the longest of anybody that’s on there because he was in there. He was in the Senate with me. But I even knew him before he was a senator and we had interacted on some policy stuff. And then the people I work with the closest on a daily basis because I just see them all the time repeatedly as you know, Pete Hegseth, obviously Scott Bessent we deal with a lot, and John Ratcliffe. That group and that team is constantly interacting with one another as well. So these are the people I’m the closest to because we work with the most." Secretary Rubio has a special type of personality, I love it!
