To address North Karnataka’s underdevelopment, the govt must focus on infrastructure to attract private investment. A second Bengaluru airport near Tumkur-Shira could spark industrial growth toward North Karnataka. The ITPL story is proof of this. I remember visiting ITPL soon after it was inaugurated—there was nothing there back then....

Sir, 2nd airport at Tumkur will not develop North KA. We need industries and international airports at Hubli, and northern KA tier 2 cities.

In the Karnataka Assembly, I spoke on the persistent neglect of North Karnataka, a region that has been ignored despite 75 years of Karnataka’s formation. Our state was born from the struggles of our people, fighting against the British and the then Congress government in the Centre, with Dharwad as the hub of the unification movement. We united with the hope of development, yet today, North Karnataka is treated like it isn’t part of Karnataka. The Nanjundappa Committee report remains a testament to this inequality. In agriculture, education, healthcare, tourism, and more, the focus has been on South Karnataka, leaving North Karnataka far behind. District-wise income data shows that the best-performing districts are all in the south, while the worst-performing ones are in the north. This disparity is driven by the concentration of private investment and industries like IT, BT, and automobile sectors in Bengaluru and its surroundings, as well as the presence of PSUs like HAL and BHEL in the south. Even in government representation, the inequality is stark—only 12% of gazetted officers and 8% of non-gazetted officers hail from North Karnataka. To address this, the government must take proactive steps: 1️⃣ Develop infrastructure to attract private investment in North Karnataka. 2️⃣ Provide higher incentives for industries to move northward compared to South Karnataka. 3️⃣ Plan the second Bengaluru airport near Tumkur-Shira to facilitate industrial growth in the region Bengaluru is already saturated, forcing people from North Karnataka to migrate for work. Instead, we must create opportunities in their own region for holistic growth. It’s time for the government to correct this imbalance and ensure equitable development for all regions of Karnataka. #KalyanaKarnataka #KarnatakaAssembly #NorthKarnatakaNeglect #BalancedDevelopment

After the resounding success of BGBS 2025, I was delighted to participate in the North Bengal Business Meet 2025 today. The event brought together business leaders, industry experts, local entrepreneurs, and representatives from small and medium enterprises. As the gateway to the North East, North Bengal holds immense strategic significance in the realm of trade and commerce. Together, we explored meaningful avenues to fully harness its untapped potential. It was a privilege to inaugurate four industrial parks in Dabgram and Ambari Falakata in Jalpaiguri, and Ethelbari and Jaigaon in Alipurduar. Spanning a total of 123.28 acres and developed at a project cost of ₹80 crore, these parks are poised to generate 4,230 new employment opportunities. With the completion of the Dankuni-Cooch Behar Industrial Corridor, North Bengal will truly emerge as a dynamic hub of business and industry. We also inaugurated the Techno India Group World School, further strengthening the region’s educational infrastructure. I was pleased to dedicate the new Siliguri Data Centre to the people, a state-of-the-art facility equipped with AI/ML infrastructure and cloud-ready virtualised application and database hosting. I am also happy to share that the Siliguri International Convention Centre will soon be established on 10 acres of land in Public-Private Partnership (PPP) mode, creating a world-class venue for hosting business summits, exhibitions, and global events. In addition, I had the honour of inaugurating the skywalk at the Jalpesh Shiv Mandir, along with the newly renovated temple complex, developed at a cost of ₹5 crore. I’m also happy to announce that six new Volvo buses will now operate from North Bengal to Digha’s Jagannath Temple, offering devotees a more comfortable and accessible travel experience. My commitment to the holistic development of North Bengal remains steadfast. We shall continue working towards inclusive growth, sustainable infrastructure, and economic empowerment for all.

Lack of Crowd Control at KSRTC Bus Stand Leads to Horrific Student Injury in Tumkur An unfortunate incident occurred at the Tumkur Bus Stand, where a 17-year-old student named Harshita sustained a serious injury while attempting to board a bus. Harshita, who is pursuing her paramedical studies at Siddaramaiah Hospital in Tumkur, was caught in a chaotic situation caused by a sudden surge in the number of passengers. According to reports, the bus was scheduled to travel from Tumkur to Madhugiri. As passengers rushed to board, a stampede-like situation developed due to overcrowding and lack of proper crowd management. In the confusion, Harshita lost her balance and fell near the bus. Tragically, one of the bus tires ran over her leg, resulting in a severe fracture. Emergency services were immediately alerted, and she was promptly transported by Sadu Ambulance to the district hospital in Tumkur. She is currently undergoing treatment for her injuries.
