To construct the base alone, a single small wind turbine requires the burning of 170 tons of coal just to make its steel components, namely the rebar. Then on top of that you have 140 cubic meters of concrete, this is just for the base remember, and of a... small turbine. It ignores the hundreds of tons of fiberglass, aluminum and copper that go into the turbine itself. You also have to consider that the majority of turbines standing today will need replacing before 2050, with the majority of those materials including the concrete for the base almost impossible to reuse. As governments continue to chase Net Zero, millions of wind turbines will be built just to replace the ones we already have - tearing up land, burning coal and pouring billions of tons of concrete. One gigawatt of wind capacity requires about 2,900 tons of copper. At a standard ore grade of 0.6%, 99.4% of the ore is not copper. Producing those 2,900 tons therefore requires processing roughly 480,000 tons of ore. That is about 1,200 full loads in a 400-ton-class mining truck. And it excludes the waste rock, overburden and processing losses. Count those and the total material moved can exceed 1 to 2 million tons. And that's before adding the steel, concrete, fiberglass and other materials required by the wind project. The "green" turbine does not begin with the wind. It begins with a mountain being blasted, hauled and crushed.

Each modern blade weighs around 10 to 15 tons--mostly fiberglass and epoxy composites with 1 to 2 tons of carbon fiber, balsa and foam, plus roughly a ton of steel and copper for structural support and lightning protection. All mined, smelted and transported using fossil fuels. Then once they wear out, after just 15 years, those complex materials are almost impossible to recycle, so most are simply buried. It's another hidden cost of green energy and the complete opposite of sustainable.

McIntrye Wind Farm recently connected some of its turbines to the grid, those works are on hold as it investigates the incident.” “The 458MW Coopers Gap wind farm in south west Queensland, the newest and biggest wind project built to date in Australia – is to undergo major repairs after faults were found in its commissioning process. AGL, which operates the $850 million project and is a joint owner through the Powering Australia Renewables Fund, said in a statement that the blades of one of the 123 turbines will have to be replaced entirely, while GE Catcon is also going to replace “generators” – referring to the equipment in the nacelle at the top of the wind tower – in a further 50 turbines.” •••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• Not only are wind farms unreliable in terms of wind dependent generation. They break easily as we saw last week on the Darling Downs. If the blades on a wind farm can’t survive a summer storm on the Darling Downs they will be useless. Australia cannot not afford to be pursuing Net Zero policies being pushed by the two major parties. We should focus on using our coal, uranium and gas resources instead of imported materials. A person who services a wind turbine or a “Wind Technician,” makes 20K a month. Once a month, he climbs to the top of each turbine and takes care of the sensors on top. It takes a half an hour on a small elevator to get to the top. Each technician wears harnesses for protection. The money involved in these turbines is insane.

Nations like Germany, Finland and the Netherlands are already blocking landfills. But they still have blades to dispose of. So the waste is pushed elsewhere. ZLH🚀: yes, this is the motor of the wind turbine, located at the highest point of the turbine shaft. these are the blades. they look small now, but in reality, when I went to the wind turbine manufacturing plant, it was about 80 meters long. really huge. and the proportions might not be accurate. when we stood below it, it was incredibly impressive. it works like this: the wind comes from this direction and drives the blades to rotate. then the motor converts that kinetic energy into electrical energy. there are cables below that can directly transmit the electricity to a substation, where it's stepped up or down in voltage, and then sent to places on land where the electricity is used. that's how a wind turbine works. 👤: it's a very meaningful souvenir.
