As we prepare for a two-day #ReASpana service delivery programme in Marabastad, we need to ensure that the area is working properly in accordance with municipal by-laws for the benefit for traders and visitors. We are currently conducting a by-law enforcement operation in Marabastad following the issuing of Offers to Rectify by TMPD. We have demolished illegal structures that were built in unauthorised areas. Traders are encouraged to apply for licences with the City so that they can be allocated designated trading spaces. We attended to an area of concern in Pretoria West today with the Tshwane Metro Police Department. Makeshift settlements have been built in a large public area and they are being utilised as brothels by women and men. We’ve removed the settlements. We don’t want any illegal activities in public areas. We are intensifying efforts to make our city safe. In light of the recent developments, with the murder of women in Gauteng, the presence of law enforcement officers has been increased in Tshwane to target crime hotspots. The presence of TMPD is combined with our continued service delivery maintenance efforts. We have a public lighting programme currently underway and our regional operations are attending to grass cutting in all areas to ensure visibility. City of Tshwane

We will not tolerate the idea of ‘no go areas’ in Tshwane. We were in Laudium this afternoon where a shooting incident occurred. While we’ve established the facts about the shooting incident not being targeted at Tshwane’s health inspectors, we are concerned about incidents of violence. We want residents and businesses to feel safe in Tshwane. We were joined by TMPD and local councillors. The butchery that sparked the shooting incident has been prohibited from operating. Residents of Tshwane, 5 suspects, from South Africa and Zimbabwe, were arrested for stealing electrical cables worth millions of rands at the City’s Forsig Electricity Depot, in Pretoria West. The suspects were arrested by the TMPD Cable Theft Unit who acted swiftly following a tip-off about the robbery. We visited the crime scene this afternoon as Tshwane teams were collecting the stolen cables that were found loaded on a truck near the border of Tshwane and the North West. The second truck was found on route towards Soshanguve. Criminal syndicates continue to test the strength of the City’s security measures. We are pleased that the TMPD is ready to weaken these criminal networks. The protection of our infrastructure is vital and demands that we do our best to protect it against criminals. We’ve disconnected electricity at a reservoir owned by Johannesburg Water, in Centurion. The City of Tshwane is owed over R62 million by the entity. The original bill stood at 69,4 million, but only R7 million was paid after a final notice was issued. Disconnection actions are the last measure used by the municipality to recover revenue owed. We continue to plead with customers to honour their municipal bills. Without revenue, we are unable to deliver services to residents of Tshwane. #TshwaneYaTima City of Tshwane
