Europe has been shy in coming to terms with the legitimate role cooperative space plays in our security and in our geostrategic independence. It is now quite clear, however, that Europe’s space and defence autonomy has become one of our Continent’s foremost priorities. Andrius Kubilius and I have a plan for a coordinated effort to increase European space resilience from space. Our vision is long-term, structured, bold and an important step in permanently integrating security in our collective space efforts. The European Parliament and the European Commission, in collaboration with European Space Agency, organised the ‘General Assembly Defence, Space and Cybersecurity’ to promote dialogue between European and national decision-makers, and industry representatives in the context of the unprecedented geopolitical challenges that the European Union is facing. European Commissioner for Defence and Space Andrius Kubilius Andrius Kubilius: we need the European Defence Union. NATO membership for Ukraine, for the time being, is not available. Full membership in the European Union is a complicated process that cannot guarantee quick integration of defense capabilities. Those are the reasons why the most effective instrument could be to look for some new instrument that would concentrate specifically on the integration of all the European defence capabilities. That is why we need the European Defence Union, which would allow to integrate defense capabilities of Ukraine, the United Kingdom, Norway with those of willing European Union member states. Such an integration would also be a strong security guarantee for Ukraine after the just peace is established.

Ukraine needs around 2,000 anti-ballistic missiles for the Patriot system per year - European Commissioner for Defence and Space Andrius Kubilius. During the first 5 days of the Iran war, American troops and the Gulf country troops used around 800 Patriot missiles, nearly half of what Ukraine needs in a year. "We need to boost production of anti-ballistic missiles in Europe. And we need to look into the development of new systems. It will take time. I cannot promise you miracles will happen tomorrow or the day after tomorrow. But we understand the problem. We have some instruments which we can use," Andrius Kubilius said. Ukraine discussed the possibility of developing new anti-ballistic systems with European countries.

Europe just took a hard stand against Donald Trump's endeavors to annex Greenland. The President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, just issued this stern warning to Trump: “The European Union supports Denmark and the people of Greenland. That is why we are carrying out internal reforms and working externally to secure a clear date for Ukraine’s EU membership. But that doesn't mean that Europe and European countries have to be aside from these efforts. This is about European security and future. And Europe has to take on more responsibility for European security, including with solving the situation in Ukraine.
