The suspect, who was recently released from Prison, on 18/08/2025 fired and wounded a businessman Gbenga Obama and robbed him of an expensive gold necklace and other valuables in broad daylight at Gbajobi Street, Allen Avenue, Ikeja. John Samuel, an ex-convict, is vicious and notorious for armed robbery, assassination, and murder of some of his victims. He was released recently after serving a six-year jail term for capital offence of armed robbery. After his release from prison, he returned to crime and criminality with even more viciousness. He is notorious for shooting at victims before dispossessing them of their valuables. CCTV footage of the 18/08/2025 incident obtained, clearly captured the suspect when he fired at the victim with English pistol,before dispossessing him of his gold necklace jewelry while his accomplice waited on a motorcycle for their escape. The victim, who sustained serious gunshot wounds during the attack,has since been treated and discharged. The suspect, Samuel John confessed to selling the stolen jewelry for ₦4 million, far below its actual value. The Lagos State Police Command is currently intensifying efforts to arrest other members of his gang and bring them to justice. They will all be prosecuted on completion of investigation. A total of 115 street beggars were arrested today across various locations in the State during the ongoing enforcement operations. In addition, 26 members of the notorious ‘Omotaku’ group who were apprehended from different parts of Lagos within the last 24 hours, were arraigned before the Magistrate Court in Oshodi. They pleaded guilty to the charges brought against them and were sentenced to three (3) months’ imprisonment in accordance with the law. This action reinforces the State Government’s firm stance against activities that threaten public safety, order, and the effective use of public spaces. Enforcement efforts will continue across the State to ensure compliance with existing laws and to maintain a safe and orderly environment for all Lagosians. #ZeroToleranceLagos

Going forward, we met with the King, some of the families of the victims, and parents in the communities of Ahoro-Esiele and Yawato communities. Furthermore, we assured them of our solidarity and support for them in this time of trouble and grief. Subsequently, we assured them that we are constantly calling on the government to ensure the immediate rescue and safe return of the abducted students and teachers. BYC condemns the use of force against the family members of Zaheer Baloch and other peaceful protesters in the strongest terms. Today, the 11-day sit-in protest by the families of forcibly disappeared Baloch individuals was attacked by the forces when they were marching towards the Red Zone. Elderly men, women, and children were subjected to brutal violence, including live firing. Dozens of protesters were taken into custody and shifted to unknown locations. For decades, the state institutions' response to peaceful demonstrations has been violence and intimidation. The forced disappearances and genocide of the Baloch people continue, and when the families and civil society protest, they are treated with cruelty, beaten, dragged, and imprisoned. After facing severe crackdown, the protesters have reorganized and continued their protest. We urge the Baloch and Pashtun people to join the protest as soon as possible and call on the judiciary to intervene in this matter to safeguard the right to peaceful assembly of these already victimized people.
