Today I did half a dozen interviews on gender equality with journalists in 🇺🇸 🇬🇧 🇦🇺 🇨🇦 . Many kept trying to sensationalise the story, by depicting doom and gloom. Actually, all the data shows we have made enormous progress gender equality.

I wasn’t interviewed for this piece but it’s a good example. Their headline is that 16% of young men say feminism has done more harm than good A minority. Most actually endorse gender equality.

If corporate algorithms really are feeding us negativity, and cocooning us in echo chambers, pumped with sensationalist, delusional clickbait, then some may want to regulate algorithms. Rather than just wallow in gloom & doom, we can actually be pragmatic.

We find the same thing with climate change. We have a new global study finding that doom and gloom messages make people more willing to share news about climate change, but less willing to actually take action to reduce climate change. Doom and gloom travels, but paralyzes.

Omitting feminist victories, negating our collective triumphs is not a Win!

My sense is also that it’s always about how men are becoming sexist etc which in turn imo makes women more polarised (because they perceive men to be more sexist than they are). Which makes men more polarised 😂

I guess it's crucial to be clear about the different branches and movements of feminism and try to divide them for its sake. Their epistemology is vastly different, and all these branches should not be counted as part of this collective success.

Where the divergence comes from then if everything is so nice and equal? It's time to accept that feminism backfired badly. There is no fixing it by saying that we've made enormous progress towards equality.
