As online harms intensify, children are particularly at risk. To better protect them, our government has introduced the Safe Social Media Act, which will make social media services and AI chatbot services safer for children. The bill, if passed, would require social media services and AI chatbot services to identify, mitigate, and address risks of harm on their platforms, and to develop services that are safe by design and put the safety of children first. It would also prevent Canadians under 16 from having accounts on social media services, while providing a process for social media platforms to seek an exemption if they can demonstrate that they have put in place a sufficient set of protections for children. This law is about holding platforms accountable and ensuring they have protections in place to keep children safe online, reduce harm before it happens, and ensure that digital spaces are safe by design all while protecting the privacy of Canadians.

As we reflect on their service, we also remember the Scripture that is engraved on the National Law Enforcement Memorial: Where “the wicked flee when no man pursueth: the righteous are as bold as a lion.” (Prov. 28:1) May God watch over the bold and the righteous and let every act of remembrance serve as a testament to the duty and honor our fallen heroes lived by.

NEW: President Trump has ordered ICE to pause most raids on farms, hotels, and restaurants, according to the New York Times. The Trump admin says it wants to keep the focus on human trafficking, money laundering, and drug smuggling. "Effective today, please hold on all work site enforcement investigations/operations on agriculture (including aquaculture and meat packing plants), restaurants and operating hotels," said senior ICE official Tatum King in an email. The email went on to say that investigations that have to do with "human trafficking, money laundering, drug smuggling into these industries are OK." The email said agents should not be arresting "noncriminal collaterals." "We will follow the president’s direction and continue to work to get the worst of the worst criminal illegal aliens off of America’s streets," DHS said in a statement, as reported by the New York Times.

Today, in my capacity as the President of NANS, I led all the structures of NANS, including sister unions, NAUS, NAPS, NANCES and NFSAN to the Community High school, Ahoro-Esiele, and Yawato community in Orire Local Government area of Oyo state, where we visited the scenes where our students and teachers were abducted. Going forward, we met with the King, some of the families of the victims, and parents in the communities of Ahoro-Esiele and Yawato communities. Furthermore, we assured them of our solidarity and support for them in this time of trouble and grief. Subsequently, we assured them that we are constantly calling on the government to ensure the immediate rescue and safe return of the abducted students and teachers. Conclusively, I assured all Nigerian Students that as far as I remain their President, I will continue to protect their interest.
