Here's a radical idea... Minimum wage jobs were meant for kids in high school with little to no work experience, not fully-grown adults to live off of. The goal should be to climb the ladder over time, not raise the floor until every summer job pays like a profession.

Chris. I'm actually with Republicans on this issue. . . just not how they want me to be. There should be no federal minimum wage. Instead, the federal government should mandate that each state sets their own minimum wage to a certain percentage above the mode (not a straight average) cost of living in the state, updated yearly (it should only drop if the cost of living drops a significant amount and should only be able to be lowered by a certain amount in the event that happens). This will have multiple effects. It puts it on the states, making the Republicans happy. It costs more to live in some states than others, it just does. While CA or NY or TX might need a minimum wage 0f $25 an hour, Wyoming might only need it to be $17. Maybe it needs to be $30 in CA and $22 in Texas. Minimum wage does need to go up, but it should be done in a way that solves the problem instead of pushes it down the road It also means we never have to talk about it again. Instead of having to have debates about raising it every few years, it's just a non-issue because it's built into the system. You guys are going to have to figure out a Post-AI/Automation economy anyway, why not start here?
