Today I learned that 600 troops from the Imperial Iranian Army were deployed to South Lebanon starting in March 1978 under the UN peacekeeping force under UNSC resolution 426 to push Israel to withdraw from the area. The troops withdrew after the Iranian Revolution in 1979.

WOW! Pete Hegseth just LIED under oath. Congresswoman Jill N. Tokuda: “Who would you follow? The president or the Constitution?” Pete Hegseth: "I will note, that in 2024 troops were — that was Joe Biden by the way — were deployed to polling locations in the United States. 2024, Joe Biden, troops were deployed to polling locations in 15 states. Explain that one to me.” This is a lie. No troops were deployed to polling locations in the United States under Joe Biden. Grok fact check me.

Israeli forces opened fire Tuesday near a newly established Lebanese Army observation post in the Sarda–Marjayoun area of southern Lebanon as troops were setting it up, according to the Lebanese Army and multiple reports. The army said an Israeli drone flew low over the site and the area came under fire in an apparent attempt to force soldiers to withdraw. Lebanese command ordered troops to reinforce and hold their position. Israel’s military said it fired “warning shots” after spotting what it called an “uncoordinated” post and said liaison channels were contacted beforehand. The incident is being reviewed by the ceasefire oversight committee and UNIFIL. Report from Zeina Khodr for AJE

Froun, in southern Lebanon, lies just south of the Litani River, well outside Israel’s so-called “Security Zone”. It is one of two “pilot zones” under the trilateral framework agreement between Israel, Lebanon and the US, where Israeli troops are to withdraw and be replaced by the Lebanese Army. But Froun has never been occupied by Israel, and the Lebanese Army already has full access. Today we spoke to the mayor and residents, who were left perplexed by the announcement. Full report to follow.

A video of China's peacekeeping force to UNIFIL in Lebanon expressing their love for their children and friends and their hope that the Chinese people will not be worried about them has gone viral on Chinese social media. Most Chinese expressed appreciation for the heroes and concern for their safety. The Chinese public is highly concerned about the safety of our peacekeeping forces after multiple aerial bombs exploded on the outside of Chinese peacekeeping troops' barracks in Lebanon in September, causing shock waves and bomb pieces to damage specific structures. The 22nd Chinese peacekeeping force to UNIFIL, which was deployed to the mission area in December 2023, is composed of a multi-role engineering company, a construction engineering company, and a Level-1+ Hospital. The force is mainly responsible for mine clearance and explosive disposal, engineering construction, medical assistance, humanitarian relief, and other tasks. More than 7,000 Chinese peacekeepers have been dispatched to Lebanon since 2006. The UN Security Council established the UNIFIL on March 19, 1978 to monitor the withdrawal of Israeli forces from southern Lebanon. Its mandate was expanded following the 2006 Lebanon War.
