My grandma used to make this she called it wilted lettuce salad. Think she added sugar and vinegar to the grease though

Grew up in Eastern Kentucky and my grandmother used to do this...she referred to it as "kilt lettuce". Delicious btw. Especially when served with other items such as soup beans and cornbread.

Wait im sorry I genuinely thought this was a joke until I read the comments Isnt this extremely unhealthy? Arent we suppose to avoid eating grease bc our arteries will clog up?

Lol... you use black seeded Simpson lettuce, small leaves, bacon and grease , and green onions chopped. Goes with any full meal.

I ate this from the time I was a kid. Still eat it today. Wilted or “kilt” lettuce is what my mom called it. Amazing stuff

My mom would make it with baby spinach and balsamic vinegar.

Oh man! As a kid...we called it Wilted Lettuce! Sour cream, vinegar, bacon, lettuce....I could/would drink the leftover. That might explain a few things. But oh so good.

The late great spinach salad of the 80's. Add some chopped hard boiled eggs and crumbled yolks to the top. I miss them on the menus.

Today I learned maybe I should take the time to dice my bacon and cube my lettuce.

Can you do this with bread, a bagel or even eggs. I can't believe that no one thought of this before. What's next, chocolate covered bacon?

Apparently you've never had bacon dressing on a salad. With some good honey mustard

I believe mustard was added when I had it. Freaking good. Also, had it once in cabbage like that. Even better

Try it on shredded cabbage then put that in a pasta perfection. ( assuming you like cabbage) also needs a good parm cheese

You need red wine vinegar and put it in on high when the bubbles form. Just 3/4 of a cup and use reddichio and not lettuce.
