As Palestinian Muslims are prevented from reaching the mosque, Israeli occupation forces have allowed hundreds of Israeli settlers to set up a music festival on the grounds of Al-Ibrahimi Mosque in the occupied old city of Hebron. As loud music played and alcoholic drinks were served at the festival, it acted as a provocative gesture against Muslims and Palestinians, who are confined to their homes under military occupation in the area.

I travelled on an Education International trip to Palestine. But we never got there. We were detained for 5+ hours, grilled and refused entry by Israeli forces. It was intimidating and a violation of our rights. It is nothing compared to what Palestinians go through every day under occupation.

Violence like this is an everyday reality for Palestinians living in the occupied West Bank. State-backed settlers often attack Palestinians by beating them with sticks, damaging olive trees and homes, and sometimes even killing them. The Israeli government’s encouragement of the illegal settlement project means the settlers continue to threaten, terrorise and steal Palestinian land. This pattern of violence is an entrenched part of Israel’s illegal occupation and apartheid regime against the Palestinian people. It must be dismantled now. #EndIsraeliApartheid

In the past hours, grave reports have been coming in of many injured and missings and dozens of shacks set on fire in Mukhmas by settler terrorists. We must not stay silent, we must not get used to this, and we must not allow neo-Nazi scums backed by the government and the occupation forces to terrorize, loot, burn, and kill. We demand immediate protection for Palestinians and for the activists on the ground, the prosecution of the terrorists, and the removal of the government of blood. Palestinian Father Issa Thaljieh, a Greek Orthodox priest serving at the Church of the Nativity, speaks about the reality facing Palestinian Christians under brutal Israeli occupation. He explains that the decline of the Christian population in Bethlehem is not the result of tension with Muslims, but the difficult conditions created by the Israeli occupation, including political pressure, economic hardship, restrictions on movement, siege and repeated lockdowns that shape everyday life in the city. Here’s an extended clip of Sheikh Jarrah, a predominantly Palestinian neighborhood in East Jerusalem, revealing its vile racist attitudes towards Palestinians. (2018) The entire neighborhood was closed to Palestinians so Israelis could celebrate their Jewish holiday. In this very area, I witnessed house demolitions and met Mohammed Elkurd, whose half of his house was given to Israeli settlers who continue to threaten and intimidate his family to this day. Miko Peled and I stumbled upon this on our way back to the hotel. We must support Palestine’s right to resist.

And after we would verify that the house has the best parameters, windows and geographical area, we made sure the people in the house were innocent. It so we would enter a house of an innocent Palestinian home in the middle of the night. But I would say that what motivated me eventually to break my silence was the piercing eyes of young Palestinians when I was barging into their house in the middle of the night. I could always justify it to myself. But those eyes, the anger, their fear, was what eventually helped me overcome that. A house of a physician in Nabilus, for example, that I entered in the middle of the night, taking him, his wife and his daughter and pushing them in a room if they wanted to use their bathroom or their kitchen or use their phone, they need permission from me. That specific house in Abelis stayed with me for a while because that physician himself was kind enough and generous enough to sit down and explain to me what it means to be a Palestinian. And I thought that I was a good moral soldier, but I was actually helping entrench the occupation in that sense."

On May 22, the community of Maghayer a-Deir, about 150 people, were forcibly expelled from their lands after settlers set up an outpost near a home in the community. On Saturday, May 24, some young residents returned to the community to take apart the structures and gather belongings left behind. While they were working, armed settlers, some of them masked, arrived and attacked the men and the activists who were with them using clubs, throwing stones and even firing in the air. When the Palestinians tried to fend them off by throwing stones, the settlers chased them, surrounded them and attacked them, injuring at least 12 Palestinians and a B'Tselem employee.
