Today I visited Yarmouk camp, which was once the largest Palestinian community outside Palestine. I once lived here, and these streets were full of people. The Assad regime did this. Remember this the next time you hear that the fall of the Assad regime was bad for Palestinians.

Isn’t it fascinating how UNRWA can stay completely silent when Assad annihilates the Palestinian neighborhood of Yarmouk in Damascus? Entire blocks leveled, thousands dead or displaced, and not a single tweet mentioning his name. Not one. Why the silence, Mr. Lazzarini? It seems UNRWA is more interested in pointing fingers at Israel than addressing the real atrocities committed by its so-called allies. Assad gets a free pass while the organization continues to prop up a narrative of victimhood rather than calling out the true perpetrators. By ignoring the destruction of Yarmouk, UNRWA fails the very people it claims to protect. This silence doesn’t just expose hypocrisy—it enables the very regimes that perpetuate Palestinian suffering.

I was born and raised there. I miss my house and sometimes I just reminisce about my childhood there and all the roads I used to walk going to school and to my friends house. I remember one day back in 2012 I was going back home from school which was outside the yarmouk camp, and

Yarmouk camp? That was a fully fledged neighborhood, that was no camp. Another reason why UNRWA shouldn’t exist. They exist to keep “Palestinians” as eternal “refugees,” in forever “camps” that morph into towns and small cities and “refugee” status being inherited. Insane!
