"Never Say Goodbye" is from Bon Jovi's 1986 album Slippery When Wet. The heartfelt power ballad became a fan favorite and a staple of the band's live shows, even though it wasn't released as a commercial single in the United States. It received significant rock radio airplay and remains one of Bon Jovi's most emotional songs of the 1980s. Although it wasn't released as a US commercial single, it reached #28 on the Billboard Mainstream Rock Tracks chart through radio airplay alone.

Today in Rock History April 5, 1984 MTV partnered with Van Halen to create one of the most infamous rock-and-roll contests in music history: The Lost Weekend with Van Halen. As part of the promotional campaign for their 1984 album, the band invited fans to send in postcards for a chance to win a once-in-a-lifetime experience. The winner would join Van Halen on their tour, party with the band backstage, and live like a rock star for 48 hours for two shows on the 4th and 5th of April. The contest gathered massive attention receiving over a million entries. The winner was 20-year-old Kurt Jeffries from Pennsylvania. Jeffries and a friend were flown to Detroit, where they were thrown headfirst into the hedonistic world of 1980s Van Halen. The prize lived up to its “lost weekend” moniker: limo rides, all-access passes, backstage partying with the band, and non-stop drinking. MTV filmed much of the chaos, airing highlights of the debauchery, including scenes of Eddie Van Halen and David Lee Roth reveling in their rock-god personas. For Jeffries, the experience was both surreal and unforgettable, embodying the excess, glamour, and unpredictability of the 1980s rock-and-roll lifestyle.

"Need You Tonight" is a song by the Australian rock band INXS, released as the first single from their 1987 album, Kick, as well as the fourth song on the album. It is the only INXS single to reach No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. It also achieved their highest charting position in the United Kingdom, where the song reached number two on the UK Singles Chart; however, this peak was only reached after a re-release of the single in November 1988. On its first run on the UK charts in October 1987, it stalled at No. 58. It was one of the last songs recorded for the album, yet it would arguably become the band's signature song.

“No Rain” was released in 1993 as the second single from Blind Melon’s 1992 self-titled debut album and became the band’s biggest hit. It reached No. 20 on the Billboard Hot 100 and topped both the Billboard Modern Rock Tracks and Album Rock Tracks charts, in the UK it peaked at No. 17. Its success was greatly boosted by the memorable music video, directed by Samuel Bayer, which introduced the world to the “Bee Girl,” played by Heather DeLoach. The character was inspired by the photograph on the band’s debut album cover, which featured the young sister of drummer Glen Graham dressed in a bee costume.

“Stricken” is the second single from Disturbed’s 2005 album Ten Thousand Fists. The track reached #1 on the Billboard Mainstream Rock chart, #2 on Modern Rock Tracks, and helped the album reach #1 on the Billboard 200. The song's riff had been sitting in guitarist Dan Donegan's collection of ideas for years before the band finally built the track around it. "Stricken" gained a massive second life after being featured as a playable song in Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock (2007).

Today in Rock History March 11, 1995 Van Halen kicked off their 1995 Balance tour at the Pensacola Civic Center in Florida. Edward dubbed it the “Ambulance Tour” due to the hip and neck issues of the Van Halen brothers. The 131-stop tour featured a Jumbotron for the first time, with Sammy battling the flu and Eddie and Alex facing health challenges, making for a memorable set of shows. The Pensacola opener was a sold-out show, setting the tone for a tour remembered for its resilience amid adversity. Tensions within the band (particularly between Eddie and Sammy) escalated during this period, contributing to the eventual breakup in 1996.
