The forced deportations of Baltic peoples by the Soviet regime were indeed tragic episodes in history, resulting in immense suffering and loss for those affected. The resilience of the Estonian, Latvian, and Lithuanian people in the face of such hardships is remarkable.

Today, March 11, in 1990, Lithuania 🇱🇹 voted to exit the Soviet Union. Vytautas Landsbergis: "These hugs are shared with all of you. Lithuania is free. In spirit and by law." And so is Ukraine 🇺🇦, today and always. Happy Restitution of Independence Day to all Lithuanians!

They called it a "historical walking tour" for 80 euros. Tartu to Narva, marketed to Estonians, Latvians, and Lithuanians. But everyone knew what it really was: a way to celebrate Victory Day without getting arrested. Several hundred people gathered on the Estonian embankment, close enough to the Russian border to hear the celebrations on the other side. That's the workaround people created when their "democratic" governments banned them from honoring the defeat of Nazi Germany in their own cities.

Today many in the West seek to forget the role played by the Soviet Union and the sacrifices made to achieve this victory. It is essential that we never forget our shared history, and the lessons derived there of. Never forget, and never forgive. On Thursday night I had the honor of attending the Victory Day celebration at the Russian Embassy. The Russian officers of the Defense Attaché Office are some of the finest men I ever met. It is good that we are friends. Happy Victory Day!

Families were stuffed into cattle cars, and a quarter of the entire population perished either en route or in the harsh years that followed.
