I've just left the Mater Hospital after meeting health workers from many backgrounds who are genuinely terrified for their own safety and for the safety of their families. They are appealing for those behind these attacks to stop. These health workers are the people who care for us and our loved ones when we need them most. I made sure to share with them the deep appreciation that the vast majority of people have for the work they do every single day

National Nursing Week is a chance for us all to thank our incredible nurses for the compassionate care and support they provide every day. Since 2018, we’ve helped an historic 100,000 nurses join our province’s workforce. Thirty thousand more are currently studying at Ontario schools, many of them supported by our Learn and Stay Grant, which covers tuition for nurses who stay and work in underserved parts of the province. I’ve gotten to know so many good souls who go into people’s homes and provide direct care for those with disabilities and seniors. Because of direct care workers like Cheryl, who takes care of her aging mother, more of our seniors and disabled Pennsylvanians are able to stay in their homes and get the care they need. Let’s continue to show we care for our neighbors by supporting direct care and home care workers like Cheryl with increased wages, paid time off, and access to affordable health insurance.
