The floods in Texas are a heartbreaking tragedy—every life lost is a failure of government preparedness. While first responders are heroes, we need to ask why FEMA’s $23 billion budget still leaves communities vulnerable. The Laken Riley Act, Section 2, mandates detention for criminal illegal aliens, but where’s the mandate for flood prevention? Billions vanish into bureaucratic black holes while infrastructure crumbles. DHS should audit every relief dollar to ensure it’s not wasted on admin bloat instead of rebuilding homes and securing riverbanks. Texans deserve action, not just press conferences. And we stand willing and able to listen to the community and experts to do all that we can.” That was my message today as I joined Governor Greg Abbott and emergency response officials in Kerrville for a briefing and aerial tour of the areas impacted by the recent devastating flooding. While there is a long road to recovery ahead, the State of Texas will continue to provide the support and resources needed for these communities to recover and for every missing person to be found. All of Texas continues to hold the Texans who lost their lives and those impacted by this tragedy in our hearts and in our prayers.

Earlier, the governor met with President Trump and the first lady as they surveyed the destruction and met with first responders, local officials and survivors. More than 170 people are still missing from the devastating July 4 flash floods. "We continue our search as we speak right now," the governor told reporters. "We're going to continue that 24/7 searching for everybody."

Yet that’s the heartbreaking reality many families are facing right now in the ongoing tragedy at Camp Mystic and along the Guadalupe River. Governor Abbott has declared tomorrow as a day of prayer for everyone impacted by the floods. Please pray with me while over 500 first responders continue their search for those still missing. Pray we find survivors.
