Today the Union Station Redevelopment Corp. announced a big step forward for plans to expand & modernize the 117-year old train station. They say a one-year study that charts a path forward is finished. Some parts would radically change, historical parts would be preserved.

I know a lot of you had questions about what parts of Union Station would be preserved under the plan & what parts would dramatically change. The first 35 seconds or so of this story we aired on @7NewsDC last night should help answer that. #UnionStation

@USDOTFRA Public spaces should have some personality.

@USDOTFRA There aren’t enough seats. People need to sit somewhere when they are waiting for a train.

@USDOTFRA Maybe they should start with the basics, providing decent trains at decent intervals at decent prices…

@USDOTFRA Do they think they have the space of dulles???

@USDOTFRA DON"T MESS WITH THE ENTRY. Union Station is beautiful - and I commuted to NY through its messy reconstruction in the 80s. It's gorgeous. Now make it work for DC.

@USDOTFRA I think this is the 4th redevelopment of Union Station since I moved to DC in 1972. None of them lasted long.

@USDOTFRA Dear lord no.

@USDOTFRA This is good actually

@USDOTFRA At least the designers put some seats in the new union station unlike Moynihan Hall in NYC
