NEW: The mother of the teen who beat his teacher unconscious says he was sentenced to five years in prison because “he is black.” Brendan Depa was sentenced to 5 years in state prison and 15 years probation for attacking his teacher who took his Nintendo. Leanne Depa says her adopted son is just being punished because of his skin color and his disability. “They are punishing that he is Black, they are punishing that he is large and they are punishing his disability,” she said. “I think he needs help.
