The fight for HIV medicines taught the world that science only saves lives when it is shared. Today, that lesson is at risk of being forgotten. But we are on the verge of an HIV prevention revolution—we still have the chance to end AIDS by 2030. This is a watershed moment in the fight to #endAIDS as a public health threat. A price of $40 per person per year is a leap forward that will help to unlock the revolutionary potential of long-acting HIV medicines. Gilead Sciences now needs to match that ambition by reducing its price for #lenacapavir, being completely transparent on cost and pricing, expanding its generics license to include all low and middle-income countries, and allowing more people in developing countries to rapidly access these life-saving medicines.

Yesterday at the Clinton Global Initiative 2025, I had the privilege of joining President Bill Clinton and Dr. Philippe Duneton, Executive Director of UNITAID, to announce a historic breakthrough in the fight against HIV. A new global pricing agreement will make lenacapavir, a revolutionary twice-yearly HIV prevention injection, available at just USD 40 per person per year, down from USD 28,000. This development will transform access, bringing hope to millions of people in Nigeria and across more than 100 low - and middle-income countries. For Nigeria, this milestone reaffirms our Government’s commitment under the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to expand access to innovative prevention, strengthen health systems, and accelerate progress toward ending AIDS as a public health threat.
