Today we’re sharing some Figma updates that are coming next year (starting on March 11, 2025) to our billing experience. We made a video walking through all of the details and read on for more info on one specific aspect: admin controls →

Today seat upgrades are driven by user actions and admins review them afterwards, before their next bill. We’ve heard people find that frustrating. In the new model, admins will have upfront control over upgrade requests. *By default*, any seat upgrade that incurs additional costs has to be approved by an admin. Admins can also customize the approval settings for each seat type.

And...if a user doesn’t have the right seat required to edit, they can get temporary access to edit for 3 days when they make their first request. If the request is declined, or the request expires, they’ll return to their previous seat type and the temporary access period ends. No costs are incurred.

We’ll share more closer to March 11, 2025 when we start to roll this out. Of course, in the mean time, I’m happy to answer any questions. Thanks to everyone who has provided feedback about various facets of the billing experience—this has been a huge undertaking at Figma and we appreciate your patience!

@figma Completely unrelated but that room looks very cozy.

Figma seems to be prioritizing revenue and user acquisition over design. It seems like you’re not particularly fond of working on design functions. I wonder if your ideal client is someone who just buy the seats and manage them using the UI you’re showing. They’d just approve, add, and subtract seats without actual design work.

@figma Plesse relay to the team to please please please give us a plan with dev mode and slides removed + all ai overheard removed. I will literally never use any of this.

@figma The fact that Slides and the new UI were prioritized over fixing billing and ‘working with agencies/freelancers’ is extremely disappointing and frankly costing us a lot of money.

@figma What about the Design seat? Oh I see, Designers have to go all in. 😑

@figma Thanks for the recap Tom! Very professionally made video with a clear explanation. Connected Projects sounds like an awesome and welcome change 🙌.

@figma So happy about the dedicated Dev seat! Especially for Pro plans (saves us some bucks).
