DPW Snow Operations Update: The District Snow Team is continuing cleanup operations across the city, including removing snow from residential streets. As of this morning, crews have moved so much snow to the RFK site that it’s now a mountain of snow equivalent to two football fields long and nearly two stories tall. That’s the scale of what it takes to keep DC moving after a major ice storm.

While you were sleeping, our snow and ice crews were not! Overnight snow was intense in parts of NYS. As the storm winds down this morning, NYSDOT crews remain out clearing roads and addressing slick spots. If you are traveling, slow down and give plows room to work.

Road conditions remain challenging after the storm. Check out Team Metro crews out in DC clearing bus bays and stops to restore service. We’re coordinating closely with DC, Maryland, & Virginia as work continues across the region. Thank you for your patience.

If you don't HAVE to go anywhere today, it would be a good idea to stay off the roads. While there has not been a lot of accumulation, there has been a lot of drifting snow building up on some sections of most roads. OPP officers have responded to nearly a dozen collisions across eastern Ontario since 5am. Thankfully most have been minor, with vehicles landing in a ditch. No serious injuries have been reported. If you must be on the roads, slow down, leave extra following distance, keep headlights TURNED on and keep your eyes on the road ahead. Never pass a working snow plow. They are working to make the road safer for you. The snow is expected to continue all day, meaning things will not be getting better. Check for updated road conditions or monitor local radio. #ONhwys #OttTraffic #ONStorm #DriveSafe ^bd

Current conditions on I-70 in Warren County. Please continue to avoid travel if at all possible. Conditions are treacherous with ice/snow covered roads and near white out conditions.

SCDOT forces are continuing to treat roads with salt brine on interstates and high traffic corridors to help prevent ice accumulation. If you are traveling, give these vehicles and our crews room to work and drive with caution. If you don’t have to be out on the roads, stay home.

Mississauga has received up to 45 cm of snow. All of our resources are currently deployed: ▪️Crews have been working around the clock to clear major roads for emergency vehicles and transit. ▪️ Overnight, equipment began moving into residential neighbourhoods to complete the first round of plowing on roads, sidewalks and to clear space in driveway windrows. This work is ongoing. ▪️ Work is also underway this morning to begin clearing bus stops. With so much snow on the ground, clean up on all surfaces will take time. Multiple rounds of plowing will be required to clear snow aside and additional work will be required in the coming days to remove snow from areas where it can’t be piled, such as bridge decks and intersections. ⚠️Reminder: A Citywide Winter Parking Restriction remains in effect until further notice. Remove parked vehicles from the street. #Mississauga #ONStorm

Forecasts are calling for another round of potentially heavy snow for eastern Ontario, arriving as early as overnight tonight and continuing throughout Wednesday (January 21st). Be prepared. If you have to be on the roads Wednesday, give yourself extra time, clear ALL the snow from your vehicle, adjust your driving to match conditions (slow down and leave extra following distance), keep full headlight system turned on and keep your eyes on the road. If you are behind a working snowplow, stay there. Consider adding an emergency kit to your vehicle, and make sure to top up your fuel and windshield washer fluid. Check for road conditions before heading out, and monitor local radio for road and weather updates while you're driving. #ONHwys #OttTraffic #ONStorm #DriveSafe ^bd

We've got 24,000,000 pounds of waste to pick up every day, and, WE ARE DOING IT. Today is Thursday and we are collecting Thursday trash and compost today (though maybe not at the same time that you usually receive collection). Recycling collection may be a little behind. Snow operations continue, too. We continue to plow, haul, and clear snow from all over – and have now melted 215,000,000 pounds of it!

😙Ah, Russia — everything for the people! In the center of Moscow, municipal services showed “ingenuity” and simply dumped the snow onto a neighbouring street. During yesterday’s storm, all efforts were focused on clearing the main roads. Residents are outraged and are forced to make their way to their homes through piles of snow.

All of the Strongest - from Sanitation Workers to Mechanics to the IT team - are working to get NYC back to normal. And that incudes ongoing snow clearing operations. And speaking of normal, collection is normal on Monday. Set out trash, compost and all recycling according to your normal set out schedule. Though slight delays in timing are possible, we will be there!

18z ECMWF showing freezing rain area (pink) Saturday afternoon/night/Sunday. As you can see, Nashville is included in this area. Significant ice accretion is looking more possible for Nashville Saturday night. Snowfall totals for event in Nashville around 6 inches. Snow begins in Nashville after midnight Friday night and continues during the day Saturday, transitioning to freezing rain and sleet Saturday afternoon/night into Sunday morning before switching to all snow on Sunday. The blue is rain in the imagery (I would have chosen green). #TNwx #KYwx #ALwx

Saturday Evening Snow Ops Melted snow refreezes - our salt spreaders will continue to work to address any areas in need. Snow has stopped falling and property owners MUST clear the sidewalks abutting their properties; failing to do so by 7:30 p.m. could result in a fine. You may place trash, compost and recycling at the curb according to your normal schedule, however, expect delays during ongoing snow operations – but we will get there. Hey Pizza Squirrel – Hope you enjoy the slice. Please drop the crust in a compost bin, should you not finish your meal. Emergency Snow Shovelers will be working tomorrow to help clear snow and ice from bus stops, crosswalks, fire hydrants, and step streets.

The night temperatures are predicted to drop below freezing this week, and while most hedgehogs are safely hibernating, many are not. Those born too late and still underweight, and those who are a little sickly, are still around, desperately searching for a kind garden that provides dry kitten food and ice-free water all winter. Please let that be you.

Flurry Frenzy 2026 😂 Update! ❄️ Animation of newest HRRR model shows aggressive snow/ mix bands streaming off the Gulf Saturday night and Sunday, with some reaching inland. Although it seems very overdone, if you are looking for flakes, this is a good run for you. Don’t get your hopes up, it won’t be this aggressive, but it’s looking more and more like flakes will fly! Giddy up! #snow Tampa #Florida
