E20 is the standard fuel that will be available, and it is compatible with old vehicles and new vehicles. All vehicles sold after 1st of April 2023 are fully materially compliant with E20. And people need to be reassured that in 2021, before we went into E20, there was a very detailed scientific study done by the leading automobile testing agency in the country, which is ARAI (Automotive Research Association of India). It clearly established that the possible damage to cars and two wheelers which are old is not there. It's very insignificant. And it also established that the fuel efficiency loss is to the extent of 2 to 4 per cent, not significant." On ethanol, he says, "As per the latest statistics from the government, the program so far has helped save 1.9 trillion rupees. Out of that, 1,60,000 crores has gone to farmers. There is a very small action in The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring that I find increasingly unsettling the more closely I look at it: when Saruman reveals the Palantír, Gandalf immediately pulls the cloth back over it. One man wants to look. The other wants to cover up the very thing that allows him to see more. Why? If the Palantír is a tool that allows someone to see across great distances, shouldn't a wise person want to know as much as possible? And yet this scene suggests a paradox: sometimes the danger does not lie in knowing too little, but in becoming too convinced that what we know is enough to draw a conclusion. Saruman is the clearest example of this. When he shows the Palantír to Gandalf, Saruman says: “I have seen it.” The sentence sounds like a declaration of knowledge. I have seen it. I know what is happening. I understand Sauron’s power. But that is precisely the problem: seeing one thing is not the same as seeing the whole truth. The Palantír gives Saruman a wider field of vision, but a wider field of vision does not necessarily mean a complete perspective. Saruman can see Sauron’s rising power, the scale of the threat, and things an ordinary person could never see. But he cannot see everything that will ultimately determine the outcome of the war. He does not see Frodo. He does not know how far a small Hobbit can go. He does not know how loyalty, friendship, sacrifice, and seemingly insignificant choices will shape the course of history. In other words, Saruman has more information, but that does not mean he possesses the whole truth. And this is where the Palantír becomes such an interesting image of the trap of knowledge. Because information does not draw conclusions by itself. Human beings do. Saruman sees that Sauron is powerful. From that, he reasons that Sauron will win. Then, from “will win,” he arrives at “cannot be resisted.” And finally: “We must join with him.” Notice the word “must.” Saruman does not say, “I want to stand with Sauron.” He says, “We must.” A personal choice is transformed into an inevitability imposed by reality itself. That is Saruman’s real tragedy. He does not need to stop thinking in order to become corrupted. On the contrary, he continues to reason. He continues to analyze. He continues to speak in the language of rationality. He even calls his choice wisdom: “It would be wise, my friend.” And this is where intelligence begins to become a trap. Saruman has constructed a chain of reasoning in which every path leads to the same conclusion: Sauron is too powerful, therefore resisting him is futile; if resistance is futile, then cooperation is the practical choice; and if that is the practical choice, then surrender can be called wisdom. He is no longer using reason to search for the truth. He is using reason to protect a conclusion he has already accepted. That is a particularly dangerous form of self-justification: when a person begins to call what they fear something they “must” do, and then calls their surrender “reason.” And this is why Gandalf’s reaction to the Palantír is so significant. He does not argue with Saruman that knowledge is bad. He simply says: “A Palantír is a dangerous tool.” Then he covers it. Gandalf understands something Saruman has forgotten: being wise does not mean always wanting to see more. It means knowing the limits of your own understanding. There are things we need to know. But there are also things we need to recognize that we cannot fully control in the way they affect us. Gandalf does not cover the Palantír because he is afraid of the truth. He covers it because he understands that not everything we can see should be looked at in whatever way we choose. Especially because Gandalf also says: “We do not know who else may be watching.” That line completely changes the meaning of the orb. The Palantír is not merely a window through which we can look out at the world. It is also a window through which someone else can look back at us. Saruman thinks he is using the tool to observe Sauron. But eventually, Saruman himself becomes trapped in a relationship he no longer controls. This is the paradox of power: we think we are holding the tool, until we realize that the tool has begun to shape the way we see the world. And from here, the two Wizards stand before the same problem but respond to it in completely different ways. Saruman looks at Sauron’s power and concludes: We cannot win. Gandalf looks at the same thing but refuses to accept that conclusion. Not because Gandalf knows for certain that they will win. But because he understands that no one has the right to turn a possibility into a destiny simply because they cannot yet see a way out. That is why Gandalf’s question cuts so deeply: “When did Saruman the Wise abandon reason for madness?” Gandalf does not ask: “When did you become evil?” He asks: “When did Saruman the Wise abandon reason?” Because Saruman’s fall begins with the very thing that once made him powerful: his intelligence. Intelligence itself is not the problem. The problem begins at the moment a person believes their intelligence has become great enough that they no longer need to question themselves. And perhaps that is what makes the Palantír such an intriguing symbol. It is an orb designed to see far into the distance. Yet the farther Saruman sees, the narrower his world becomes. He sees Sauron and no longer sees the possibility of resisting Sauron. He sees power and no longer sees courage. He sees war and no longer sees the small people who might change its outcome. Gandalf, meanwhile, sees less, but leaves room for more possibilities. And perhaps this is the deepest difference between the two. Saruman wants a complete view of the world so that he can be certain about the future. Gandalf accepts that the future cannot be seen in its entirety. One seeks certainty. The other accepts the limits of knowledge. And in Tolkien’s world, it is the second person who remains free. Because sometimes the most dangerous thing is not that we do not know enough. It is that we know a little, reason a great deal, and then begin to believe that our conclusion is the whole truth. Saruman is not defeated by the Palantír simply because he looks into it. He is defeated by what happens afterward: he allows what he sees to become the limit of what he can imagine. And Gandalf, through an action so small that it could almost be overlooked, simply pulls the cloth back over the Palantír. As if reminding us: Wisdom does not always mean seeing more. Sometimes wisdom means recognizing that the very way we see can deceive us.

He does not argue with Saruman that knowledge is bad. He simply says: “A Palantír is a dangerous tool.” Then he covers it. Gandalf understands something Saruman has forgotten: being wise does not mean always wanting to see more. It means knowing the limits of your own understanding. There are things we need to know. But there are also things we need to recognize that we cannot fully control in the way they affect us. Gandalf does not cover the Palantír because he is afraid of the truth. He covers it because he understands that not everything we can see should be looked at in whatever way we choose. Especially because Gandalf also says: “We do not know who else may be watching.” That line completely changes the meaning of the orb. The Palantír is not merely a window through which we can look out at the world. It is also a window through which someone else can look back at us. Saruman thinks he is using the tool to observe Sauron. But eventually, Saruman himself becomes trapped in a relationship he no longer controls. This is the paradox of power: we think we are holding the tool, until we realize that the tool has begun to shape the way we see the world. And from here, the two Wizards stand before the same problem but respond to it in completely different ways. Saruman looks at Sauron’s power and concludes: We cannot win. Gandalf looks at the same thing but refuses to accept that conclusion. Not because Gandalf knows for certain that they will win. But because he understands that no one has the right to turn a possibility into a destiny simply because they cannot yet see a way out. That is why Gandalf’s question cuts so deeply: “When did Saruman the Wise abandon reason for madness?” Gandalf does not ask: “When did you become evil?” He asks: “When did Saruman the Wise abandon reason?” Because Saruman’s fall begins with the very thing that once made him powerful: his intelligence. Intelligence itself is not the problem. The problem begins at the moment a person believes their intelligence has become great enough that they no longer need to question themselves. And perhaps that is what makes the Palantír such an intriguing symbol. It is an orb designed to see far into the distance. Yet the farther Saruman sees, the narrower his world becomes. He sees Sauron and no longer sees the possibility of resisting Sauron. He sees power and no longer sees courage. He sees war and no longer sees the small people who might change its outcome. Gandalf, meanwhile, sees less, but leaves room for more possibilities. And perhaps this is the deepest difference between the two. Saruman wants a complete view of the world so that he can be certain about the future. Gandalf accepts that the future cannot be seen in its entirety. One seeks certainty. The other accepts the limits of knowledge. And in Tolkien’s world, it is the second person who remains free. Because sometimes the most dangerous thing is not that we do not know enough. It is that we know a little, reason a great deal, and then begin to believe that our conclusion is the whole truth. Saruman is not defeated by the Palantír simply because he looks into it. He is defeated by what happens afterward: he allows what he sees to become the limit of what he can imagine. And Gandalf, through an action so small that it could almost be overlooked, simply pulls the cloth back over the Palantír. As if reminding us: Wisdom does not always mean seeing more. Sometimes wisdom means recognizing that the very way we see can deceive us.

If Matt Walsh has been looking and sounding a little stiff and shrill lately, it's probably because he is not able to sit comfortably. This is due to the Big Hand, which had to be inserted fairly deep so that it could move his mouth well enough to create the appropriate noises. The appropriate noises, in this case, being "you have offered no individual solution". Note that word, "individual". The Big Hand is very keen to slip that word into the premises of any debate, lest the discussion turn to solutions that involve collective action. The Big Hand does not want you to discuss collective action, because collective action might actually end up changing the status quo. It is, in fact, transparently obvious that nothing else will. No detailed examination of the problem is required. We need only look at who has the problem. A problem that a few individuals have is a personal problem, requiring a personal solution. A problem that a whole society has is a political problem, requiring a political solution. The problem we have is slave labor. Why is this a problem? It's certainly not a problem for the Big Hand which is moving Matt Walsh's mouth. It's not a problem for the boomers, who need... well, want... cheap workers for the business they own. (Businesses they were able to start or buy because their own labor, in their younger years, was highly compensated.) But it is a problem for them. They just don't realize it, because right all they see is the cheap labor. The bad consequences come along later. Slave labor destroys empires. How? Why? Well, what is a slave? In the political sense, a slave is a worker who cannot participate in the free market, because he is constrained by physical force. He cannot sell his labor to the highest bidder, and therefore he cannot negotiate. He must take what he is given. A literal slave cannot find a higher bidder to sell his labor to, because his employer is legally allowed to use force to make him stay. An prisoner in a labor program cannot find a higher bidder to sell his labor to, because he cannot go where other employers are. An indentured servant cannot find a higher bidder to sell his labor to, because the state will use force on him to compel him to complete his contract. A work visa immigrant cannot find a higher bidder to sell his labor to, because if he quits or is fired, he will be banned for the economy altogether, and must return to where he came from. That's what a slave is. So what is a free market? A free market is an economy where all actors are free from forcible constraint on their economic choices. Obviously, no market is totally free — you're not allowed to start an assassination service, and if you were, it could be used to constrain the economic freedom of others. But nations prosper when their markets are as free as possible, and fail when they are not. When you introduce slavery, whether it is called slavery, or slipped in the back door under some softer name, you destroy the free market. It is impossible for a free worker to economically compete with a slave without becoming a slave himself. Because a slave cannot negotiate, and must take what he is unilaterally given, a free worker must be more expensive until and unless he accepts what a slave receives. And what a slave receives is unilaterally set by his employer. Where slavery exists, a free worker is left with three options: 1. Take what a slave takes, and be treated as a slave is treated, thereby becoming equivalent to a slave. 2. Be unemployed, and subsist through government handouts, charity, or crime. 3. Become an entrepreneur, and own slaves rather than being one... if he can. If he succeeds in ascending to the business owner class, he will become a slaver himself. He will have no choice. If other businesses employ slaves to reduce labor costs, so must he. Obviously, all of this is bad for the free worker. But... so what? What if we are amoral, and we want to be slavers? What if we want to be mob bosses? What if we want America to be a slave empire, built by slave workers and defended by slave soldiers? What if we want an entire world composed of 0.1% white and jewish slave owners, supported by a massive underclass of brown slaves? Sure, those pesky middle class libertarians would fuss, until we got rid of them, but wouldn't it all just work? Wouldn't it be awesome for the 0.1%? All we'd need to do is implement massive technological control programs over news and information to prevent those dumb brown slaves from revolting. And the Big Hand will never be short of an extra Matt Walsh to wield as a puppet. So this sounds awesome, right? Global slave empire, and if you object, you're a loser who gets money from doing work, instead of owning things, and you deserve to be a slave. Well... it sounds awesome until you crack a history or economics textbook. Slavery collapses economies. Collapsed economies collapse empires. You see, when you import slaves, and pay them slave wages, you are able to save money on labor, and produce goods and services more cheaply. That would be great for you... if the economy were a zero sum game. It's not. Because when you produce goods and services, you need someone to sell them to. Has everyone suddenly forgotten how a depression works? What is it that is depressed, in a depression? Wages, that's what. When wages are depressed, the people earning them spend less on goods and services. When they spend less on goods and services, producers of those goods and services must produce them more cheaply so they can sell. Which means they need to save on materials and labor. This drive wages down, both directly when companies cut labor costs, and indirectly when the companies that serve them with material goods need to produce those goods more cheaply. Which depresses spending even further. And then the government starts printing money, because impoverished slaves can't pay taxes. So now the money is worthless, too. That's what a depression is. It's a downward spiral. And slave labor is a fast track ticket to depression and economic collapse. Rome survived Carthage. Rome survived perpetual war. Rome survived rebellion, political coups, assassinations, chaos. Rome couldn't survive this. Neither can America. You cannot prosper alone. If you get rich by making others rich, you have allies. You have a system of mutual support. You have free market capitalism. If you get rich by making others poor, there will be no one to trade with. The most insidious part of this is that it's not a choice that individual business owners can make. Once the gates of slavery are open, and competitors in your industry begin to use slave labor, your only choice is either to be undercut and go bankrupt, or to follow suit and survive... until the economy collapses and everyone goes bankrupt. Whether it is importing foreign indentured servants, or exporting entire industries to places where workers are slaves, slavery has a gravitational force that pulls all economies to it, then gradually destroys them. Slavery anywhere is slavery everywhere. Steep tariffs on H1B and imported goods are not DEI for Americans, because Americans can compete with any workforce on the planet so long as those workers are free. Tariffs on imported workers, goods, and services, are incentive barricades against slavery. They are a temporary measure until we can eradicate slavery from the planet. Which we must do, or any advanced civilization, including America, will not survive. Some may not care if America survives, but you need to. It's where you keep all your stuff.

Take what a slave takes, and be treated as a slave is treated, thereby becoming equivalent to a slave. 2. Be unemployed, and subsist through government handouts, charity, or crime. 3. Become an entrepreneur, and own slaves rather than being one... if he can. If he succeeds in ascending to the business owner class, he will become a slaver himself. He will have no choice. If other businesses employ slaves to reduce labor costs, so must he. Obviously, all of this is bad for the free worker. But... so what? What if we are amoral, and we want to be slavers? What if we want to be mob bosses? What if we want America to be a slave empire, built by slave workers and defended by slave soldiers? What if we want an entire world composed of 0.1% white and jewish slave owners, supported by a massive underclass of brown slaves? Sure, those pesky middle class libertarians would fuss, until we got rid of them, but wouldn't it all just work? Wouldn't it be awesome for the 0.1%? All we'd need to do is implement massive technological control programs over news and information to prevent those dumb brown slaves from revolting. And the Big Hand will never be short of an extra Matt Walsh to wield as a puppet. So this sounds awesome, right? Global slave empire, and if you object, you're a loser who gets money from doing work, instead of owning things, and you deserve to be a slave. Well... it sounds awesome until you crack a history or economics textbook. Slavery collapses economies. Collapsed economies collapse empires. You see, when you import slaves, and pay them slave wages, you are able to save money on labor, and produce goods and services more cheaply. That would be great for you... if the economy were a zero sum game. It's not. Because when you produce goods and services, you need someone to sell them to. Has everyone suddenly forgotten how a depression works? What is it that is depressed, in a depression? Wages, that's what. When wages are depressed, the people earning them spend less on goods and services. When they spend less on goods and services, producers of those goods and services must produce them more cheaply so they can sell. Which means they need to save on materials and labor. This drive wages down, both directly when companies cut labor costs, and indirectly when the companies that serve them with material goods need to produce those goods more cheaply. Which depresses spending even further. And then the government starts printing money, because impoverished slaves can't pay taxes. So now the money is worthless, too. That's what a depression is. It's a downward spiral. And slave labor is a fast track ticket to depression and economic collapse. Rome survived Carthage. Rome survived perpetual war. Rome survived rebellion, political coups, assassinations, chaos. Rome couldn't survive this. Neither can America. You cannot prosper alone. If you get rich by making others rich, you have allies. You have a system of mutual support. You have free market capitalism. If you get rich by making others poor, there will be no one to trade with. The most insidious part of this is that it's not a choice that individual business owners can make. Once the gates of slavery are open, and competitors in your industry begin to use slave labor, your only choice is either to be undercut and go bankrupt, or to follow suit and survive... until the economy collapses and everyone goes bankrupt. Whether it is importing foreign indentured servants, or exporting entire industries to places where workers are slaves, slavery has a gravitational force that pulls all economies to it, then gradually destroys them. Slavery anywhere is slavery everywhere. Steep tariffs on H1B and imported goods are not DEI for Americans, because Americans can compete with any workforce on the planet so long as those workers are free. Tariffs on imported workers, goods, and services, are incentive barricades against slavery. They are a temporary measure until we can eradicate slavery from the planet. Which we must do, or any advanced civilization, including America, will not survive. Some may not care if America survives, but you need to. It's where you keep all your stuff.

“A Wizard Is Never Late” In the scene where Gandalf meets Frodo in the Shire, Frodo teases him for being late. Gandalf replies: “A wizard is never late, Frodo Baggins. Nor is he early.” He then concludes that a wizard always arrives at precisely the time he means to. At first glance, this is simply a humorous remark, perfectly in keeping with Gandalf’s character. But when I place it alongside his other words throughout The Lord of the Rings, I feel that the line opens up a deeper way of looking at the character. Gandalf is not someone who knows the entire future in advance. But he is aware that he is carrying out a mission greater than himself, and that what happens in Middle-earth does not lie entirely within the control of any individual. So the question I want to ask is: when Gandalf says that he is neither late nor early, but arrives at the right time, what does “the right time” actually mean to him? Other forces are at work One of the lines that draws my attention most is what Gandalf says about Bilbo finding the Ring. In the novel, Gandalf says: “Behind that there was something else at work, beyond any design of the Ring-maker. I can put it no plainer than by saying that Bilbo was meant to find the Ring, and not by its maker. In which case you also were meant to have it.” I am especially struck by the phrase: “was meant to.” Bilbo was meant to find the Ring. And if that was so, Frodo was also meant to have it. His power, therefore, is not an end in itself. He does not possess power simply so that he can do whatever he wants. His power is connected to a mission. This becomes even clearer after his confrontation with the Balrog. In the novel, Gandalf says: “Naked I was sent back — for a brief time, until my task is done.” The important words here are: “sent back.” He was sent back. And he returned: “until my task is done.” Gandalf did not decide for himself to return. He was sent back and continued his task. I do not want to take this line too far by claiming that Gandalf knew the exact details of the entire plan behind his return. What we can say more confidently is that Gandalf himself understands his return as having been sent back so that he may continue and complete his task. This fits the image of Gandalf throughout the story: He has a task, but he does not see the entire outcome. He knows that he is serving something greater, yet he still has to choose how to carry out his part. The circumstances are given, but the choice remains ours This is expressed very clearly when Frodo says: “I wish the Ring had never come to me. I wish none of this had happened.” Gandalf replies: “So do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us.” Here, I see two beautiful layers: The circumstances are given. The actions are chosen. Frodo cannot choose the age into which he was born. He cannot choose whether the Ring will appear. But Gandalf does not say that Frodo therefore has no choice. He says that what we can decide is what we will do with the time that is given to us. In The Return of the King, Gandalf also says: “It is not our part to master all the tides of the world, but to do what is in us for the succour of those years wherein we are set...” We are not meant to master all the tides of the world, but to do what lies within our power during the years in which we have been placed.
