GYUVIN LAUGHING SO HARD RECALLING THIS ANECDOTE FROM HIS DATE W RICKY😭💞 🦌 no but suddenly… after we finished eating and were coming out, ricky suddenly called a taxi. he called it, and the moment we stepped outside, there was a reserved taxi right in front of us. so he asks ne, “is it this one?”so i told him, “you’re the one who called it, right? you should check on your phone. check the number.” then he fiddles around with his phone for a bit and shows me the screen. i said, “no! i’m telling you to compare it with the license plate!” and he goes, “oh? it’s not the one?” then he looks at the map and says, “ah, it hasn’t arrived yet?”….. HAHAHA … no but… so i told him, “you should’ve been checking that!” and then our actual taxi arrived. but- HAHAHAHAHAHHA…. suddenly, like a little kid- like a little kid, he walks up to the taxi and reaches out to open the back door. but because the taxi driver couldn’t see him, right? so the driver just kept driving forward, but ricky followed along with his hand still reaching out for the door, so i was like, “no, knock! knock on the door!” he went on for like 20 meter, in the rain. i told him, “no but how would the driver know if you don’t knock?!” and he goes, “i thought he saw me….” i told him, “no you were walking in his blind spot, how would he see you?” ah, today was really such a happy day.

On this day, 41 years ago, Peter Weir's "Witness" (1985) starring Harrison Ford & Kelly McGillis was released in the USA. Originally, there were 2 pages of dialogue for the final scene in 'Witness' (1985), but Peter Weir cut it, despite the insistence of the studio: "I got into a tricky spot with my first American film 'Witness' (1985). At the end of that movie, the police detective played by Harrison Ford is leaving the farm to go back to his life in Philadelphia and he goes to say goodbye to the Amish woman. Their romance is clearly not going to go anywhere. You see him driving away and passing the Amish man coming down the hill and you realize that she is going to have a life with him. Originally there were two pages of dialogue in which Harrison explained why he was leaving and she gave her feelings to him. It was very literal, and I cut it all because we didn’t need it. The producer told me that the studio would never accept it because we need to know what they are feeling. I knew that if I had done my job properly, you would know exactly how they were feeling by the time it was all cut together. They just look at each other. It’s hopeless, it’s beyond words. The executive from the studio, Jeffrey Katzenberg, who was at Paramount at the time, flew out to talk to me and suggested I shoot it both ways just in case. That seemed a waste of time to me so Jeff asked me to paint a picture in words for him and tell it like a story. So, over coffee in this restaurant in Lancaster Pennsylvania, I told him. That makes me an Egoistic God You wouldn’t know. The boy I chanced on after the lockdown and helped him secure his Form One spot at Kagumo Boys High School scored a B+ in last year’s KCSE. We’ve never met and we probably never will. I’m the Egoistic God just like your mysterious African Christian God. I periodically pick up strangers (mostly on my drive from the village to Gîcuka and drive them where they were going past the matatu stop. Several times The evening I went to Kingoris for the second time, I had come from the village with my daughter. At that processing facility called Equatorial something between maragua and Kaharati by the railway crossing, we picked up a mother and her little boy… probably 7 years old. They needed to go to Thika by Blue Post and then catch another matatu to Gatanga I drove them to their village way deep in some beautiful rolling hills and big blue skies of Kandara The boy has a rabbit project going on just like I did when I was his age. I gave him some cash to expand his business and told him to take care of mama when he’s a big boy driving a big car. I gave him a dream in exchange of my own childhood memories of raising rabbits. That’s how I knew what to answer Kingori when he asked me how long I’ve been shikanisharing money. A 42-year-old man was arrested on Monday for allegedly killing his three daughters with a sharp weapon in Giridih district, police said. This weekend sees the last ever episode of Football Focus broadcast on the BBC. One of my colleagues sent me this earlier this week. A montage of some of the stuff we did on the show and it brought back so many lovely memories ❤️ I can tell you exact spot where I was standing on the old runway at Turnberry golf club when I got the call to see if I wanted to become the presenter of Football Focus. I was covering The Open in 2009 and it was one of the best conversations I have ever had. For a kid who had grown up watching the show every week with my dad it was an amazing privilege to know that I would be hosting a programme which had always been such a big part of my weekend. I called my dad immediately and he was just as pleased as I was. When the news was announced I had a phone call from the one and only Bob Wilson. He was so warm and encouraging, as he always is, and said “Dan, you are gonna love this job. There is nothing like it… make sure you take care of it”. I hope I did. As a former custodian of the couch, Bob knew how special it was and I felt the same way when I handed over the reins to the brilliant Alex Scott when I left Focus after 12 seasons. People still talk to me about the show all the time. Focus is stitched into my life and I know there are still so many fans who really care about it which is why it’s such a crazy decision to get rid of it. Move it to Saturday morning, tinker with the format but, in a world where there is such a premium on reliable and trusted brands, why would you throw away over 50 years of hard work and history? It carries weight. I remember interviewing Pele years ago and I told him I was from Football Focus and he said “I know all about Football Focus” with a big smile. When we were filming a show about the history of Barcelona at the Nou Camp we were about to sit down to talk to Eusebio and Johan Cryuff (I had to pinch myself about that one) and Sir Bobby Charlton walked over and said to them, “You can tell this is important gentlemen… the team from Football Focus are here”. When I called Noel Gallagher to talk about an idea we had to get him to interview Mario Ballotelli at Manchester City he rearranged his world tour to be there. Obviously Balotelli was a draw but Noel said “I’d do anything for Football Focus”. When I interviewed Jurgen Klopp in the tearoom at Exeter City before an FA cup tie the lovely ladies serving brews were wedged into the corner while we spoke. I introduced them to Mr Klopp afterwards and he apologised for stealing their space; “Don’t worry about that” they said. “We’ve just been on Football Focus! Wait until we tell the family about this!”. I know the game has changed and the way we consume it has changed but there is still an audience there if you find the right place for it, promote it, ‘take care of it’ and give fans the chance to be part of the conversation on an informed, thoughtful and entertaining show about the sport we all love. I am gutted it’s going but also so thankful for all the amazing people I got to work with over the years. They remain life-long friends and I still can’t quite believe I got to sit alongside the people I grew up watching play the game at the highest level. I remember when Alan Shearer called me “Dan” on one of the first shows I worked on. The little kid inside me thought “Alan Shearer knows my name!”. It was a pleasure to work with so many brilliant pundits and it was great to watch Alex develop on Focus and then go on to host the programme so well. I was asked this week to pick a favourite moment from my 12 years on the show. It’s a very hard question because I have a huge catalogue of wonderful memories. I always look back on our on-the-road shows because we were taking Focus out to the fans; their club was the canvas and we got to paint a beautiful picture together each week about what the place meant to the community, the history, the culture and all the things that were part of that.
