Until about last year, I pretty much considered Lord of the Rings to be the classic conventional Good vs. Comically Evil narrative dynamic that I have generally found to be very stale, unimaginative, and not very thought provoking or compelling in a nuanced and complicated world. After everything that's happened since WWII to the present... let's just say I get it now.
