for Morrison, you never know where love will take you. is it going to kill you, caress you within the warmth of its bosom, abandon you, consume you, hold you. unfortunately, love can abuse you as much as its tenderness can keep you held. love is risky, but too precious to lose.

this is my favorite interview of Morrison, her conviction and unblinking skepticism of love, and its necessity, is chilling and piercing. no one takes on the provocation of love quite like Morrison for me.

I love the way hes interviewing her, it’s refreshing. He’s obviously read her novels and is desperately trying to understand these black female characters and their perspectives
