I’ve been lucky enough to see all of Maynards bands multiple times in stadiums to small auditoriums. What an incredibly talented person.

A song with roots stretching back before Tool became one of their defining early tracks. “Sober” appeared on the band’s 1993 debut album Undertow, with Maynard James Keenan’s intense vocal helping establish their dark, unsettling sound. At Reading Festival that year, Tool were introducing British audiences to a band unlike almost anything else on the bill.

Tool - ‘Ænima’…I’m unashamed fan of this, its lyrical content and the music. Killer stuff. ‘Learn to swim!!!’

"Lateralus" doesn't build toward something. It becomes something. Tool at their most fully realized.

This must be the band featuring the drummer with arguably the most beautiful face in the world (Atsushi Sakurai). "Hinan GO-GO" was the predecessor band to the Japanese rock band BUCK-TICK.

Here’s a fun fact: Tool’s performance of “Sober” at the Reading Festival on August 27, 1993, is captured in what is widely regarded as the only existing professional multi-camera TV broadcast (pro-shot) footage of the band from their early Undertow era. This rare clip shows a very young Maynard James Keenan (in his signature eccentric style—often described as wearing a pink onesie or similar quirky outfit for that set) delivering the song with the raw, intense energy that helped put Tool on the map internationally. It’s become a fan-favorite archival gem, frequently shared and remastered online because almost no other high-quality live footage exists from Tool in 1993. The setlist that day included “Sober” right in the middle, sandwiched between tracks like “Undertow” and “Opiate.”
