As we mark Holocaust Remembrance Day, the dangerous rise in antisemitism on social media is a significant cause for concern. In a new column, IDI expert Dr. Tehilla Shwartz Altshuler warns that algorithms developed to maximize engagement now amplify rage and extremism, turning social media into the primary channel of digital antisemitism. “If social media platforms heighten antisemitism, artificial intelligence automates it,” Dr. @tehillaaltshul1 explains. The advent of AI introduces new challenges: it automates and embeds existing societal biases, making antisemitism less visible and harder to confront. “AI systems are already gaining the ability to erase the Holocaust from historical narratives or to rewrite key historical events…to reinforce antisemitic stereotypes.” The future of antisemitism, she argues, will be determined by the tech policies we craft today. How we regulate AI and address hate speech will not only affect Jewish safety, but also the fate of all minorities and marginalized communities. Read the column:
