💔🇵🇸😭Dear friends, last night was horrible. It was the worst night so far. We were ordered to leave. But how could we leave? We can't bring the cats and where would we go? We heard people were killed when they left their house. We are terrified and no option is a good one. So we stayed. We don't dare to really go outside, just stay near our house. We fed the cats, my friends, because I needed to distract my children. I don't want them to know I fear for our lives. I needed to pretend that everything will be alright. I am actually disgusted by this. I’ve had so many teachers that changed my life and put me in the right path, without them I don’t want to think about where I would be. These teachers are sharing how much money they have in their accounts on the par day. In a society where our teachers are guiding the minds of the future, the people who will be helping us when we are later in life. I don’t think they are appreciated enough nor is the compensation package up to par. It perplexes me how they they have to spend a crazy amount of money for their education, only to struggle to get by with a smile while still being generous enough to pay for the items our children need without being reimbursed for much of it. I think it’s time we create a change, I don’t think it’s fair we expect so much of them and they give so much to us only to relieve so little. I know people are going to argue with me and say well they chose to do it so if they aren’t happy with the pay, they can get another job. While that’s true, we would be in bad shape however if they ever chose to do that. Who would be teaching our kids and preparing them for the future. I think we focus too much on things that aren’t and shouldn’t be our priority while neglecting and overlooking a major issue right below our noses. Their jobs are important and our kids would fail without them so why are we treating them like they aren’t important? It’s because it’s easy for us to think of them as our babysitters for half the day. We treat them like Nannie’s who only watch our kids while we go to work and do things we enjoy. Maybe it’s time we revisit our roles in helping them achieve our goals.

In the weeks and months ahead, I ask that we remember President Lincoln’s words during an even more divided time: let’s proceed “With malice toward none” and “with charity for all.” I think you’ll agree that our nation’s discourse has grown far too extreme. It’s dangerous, unsustainable, and deeply un-American. It must not continue this way. Our country was founded on the premise that we’re a haven for different opinions, religions, and backgrounds. We thrive despite our differences. When we disagree, we do so respectfully. How we collectively decide to move forward will shine a light on how we want to be viewed as Americans, and I hope that we’ll proceed with dignity, respect and civility. Our political opponents are NOT our enemies. They are our family members, our friends, neighbors, and co-workers. We need to all do a better job of listening to one another. A big focus of mine in the coming weeks and months will be reopening paths of dialogue and mutual respect. Let’s not be afraid to have difficult discussions about how we overcome our differences as Americans. Let’s commit to treating each other with the same kind of respect that we would want to be treated with. It won’t be easy and it may not happen quickly. But we can do this. And we must.
