The Black Bears sealed it with :56 left as sophomore Jacob Lewis hauled in a touchdown pass from Logan Isaac (who had thrown just 19 passes all season). Senior standout Zane Farney powered the offense with three rushing touchdowns, while Wyatt Newberry delivered impact plays on both sides of the ball. After an 11-19 start to the season, the team and Sparky were feeling the heat from the media and the fans. Despite the struggles, Sparky felt extremely confident in his club. "I love to get them firing at me. We're going bad right now, so and see, now all guns will be firing. But I got news for them. I can accept all the firing, but I promise this will be the first time when the season comes to an end, if this club does what I think it will do, I'm gonna fire back." The Tigers would end up winning the East Division with 98 wins and play in the 1987 ALCS. A good reminder as this 2026 team fights through a tough start to the season.
