This is not Ai. This is from years ago in Ireland. I saved it on my phone and whenever I feel down and the World is getting to me I watch this on a loop for a mind reset. Works every time. I love the fact there are people out there doing this kind of thing to give others joy. JOY! That is the word. We need more JOY. I never thought I was going to make a film out of it. But when I met her, she made me think about this story. So, I started thinking about it, maybe just subconsciously. I started to see that it could be possible- to see the character. And this is a story that, until you start to envision the character you don’t think that the character could actually exist. So when I met her I started to think about it- to elaborate on the story in my mind. And after a while I decided to make the film. When I wrote the film, I wrote it for her- I knew that Monica Bellucci would be Malena. That was extraordinary. I love writing knowing in advance who the actors are going to be. I was listening to a sermon recently from one of my favorite teachers, Tim Keller, who sadly passed from this earth earlier this year. He was talking about the power and meaning of the words “Peace On Earth”. I was deeply encouraged and challenged to consider the significance of those words, particularly what they meant when announced by the angels 2000 years ago, and what they mean to us in 2023. As I was reflecting on all of that in light of what’s happening in my life personally with family and friends as well as in the world as a whole, I started thinking about a song I wrote a few years ago with my friend Tom Douglas called “A Desperate Benediction (Peace on Earth)” and suddenly found myself rewriting some of the words of this song, specifically related to right now...Christmas 2023. I’m not even sure as a songwriter what the rules are on this kind of a thing, but I felt strongly that I wanted to share it with you…So here you go. Peace on Earth, Christmas 2023.
