It wasn't until the ’90s that psychologist Terry Kupers applied it in prison therapy to explain why hyper-stoic “tough guy” norms lead to guys refusing help, higher suicides, and broken lives. Again: men helping men fix what’s broken. The goal was spotting “toxic” versions (harmful to men) vs. healthy masculinity (strength, leadership, protection without the poison). It wasn’t about attacking all men, until modern culture twisted it. Your “it’s just women describing masculinity” take is just cope and ignores the history. It started with men who cared enough to reflect on themselves. And while we’re here, my biggest beef isn’t even with you, it’s with the meathead “alpha male” dating gurus. These are the ones who take vulnerable young guys’ money, fill their heads with half-truths and red-pill garbage, promise they’ll slay if they just act like cavemen. Most of these frauds are former awkward, bullied, overweight kids who finally showered, hit the gym, and now pretend they’re experts. They never dealt with their rejection trauma or chip on their shoulder from one high-school girl saying no, so they spend years hating on women and staying lonely dudes. Then there’s the subset who are deeply closeted or resent women for the attention they get, projecting their own issues, like the homosexuals in the space who have stayed closeted which caused severe resentment towards women. And yeah, 80% of these podcast hosts/gurus are single, never had a real relationship, zero credentials, no training and NOT qualified in any way. These frauds all regurgitate the same playbook because they can’t get laid themselves. Total scams preying on insecure men. Real masculinity doesn’t need grifters or denial of problems. If you’re too fragile to admit some versions of “man up” culture hurt men too, maybe that’s the real toxicity talking. Drop the denial. Read the actual history instead of parroting manosphere memes. Or keep being the prick who thinks calling out harm = hating men. Your choice. But don’t pretend this started with women; it started with men who actually gave a damn about fixing what’s broken.
