JUST IN: 🇺🇸 🇨🇦 USTR Jamieson Greer tells the NYT Canada walked away from what he describes as the most preferential U.S. trade treatment in the world. According to Greer, the offer included: • Auto tariffs as low as 7% • Lower steel and aluminum tariffs • Elimination of the 10% lumber tariff And now Canada faces a widening trade war. The NYT says Carney’s office declined to comment. If Greer’s account is wrong, Ottawa should correct the record. If it’s right, Canadians deserve to know why Carney walked away. Release the deal.

🚨Geopolitical / Trade Tensions – U.S. Tariffs on Europe President Trump’s renewed threat of tariffs targeting eight European countries has reignited trade tensions, prompting European leaders to prepare retaliatory measures and emergency coordination. This development has already rattled global markets and could influence risk assets like crypto if trade conflict escalates further. #US #Trump #Tariffs #Crypto #Market #EU

“We got attacked. The US put 50%” — Canadian PM on trade war Canada has suspended trade negotiations with the United States after the latest round of talks collapsed, with Prime Minister Mark Carney ordering negotiators to return to Ottawa. Carney said the US made last-minute changes to the proposed terms that were “unfair, uneconomic, and called into question the reliability of any deal.” 💬 “We cannot accept what they’ve offered and we will not give what they’ve asked,” he said. At midnight, the US-imposed 50% tariffs took effect on roughly $28 billion of Canadian goods. Canada said it would match those tariffs dollar for dollar. The current rift is part of a trade war that has been building for more than a year, after Trump made tariffs the centerpiece of his second-term economic policy. The latest escalation comes as the US uses Section 338 of the 1930 Tariff Act — a Depression-era tool allowing tariffs of up to 50% against countries accused of discriminating against US businesses.

Donald Trump has made it official. 25% tariffs will be imposed on Canada in less than 24h. And where is Trudeau? He's flew to Poland for a photo-op and to talk about climate change. So much for 'Canada First'...

Canada has announced a recruitment program for top research talent and H1B visa holders from the US. Mark Carney: "$1.7B for the world's most talent researchers - a thousand of them and targeted H1B visa requirements from the United States." How does it cost $1.7M per talent?! Where does money go? Top talent goes to the US under O-1 visa. Canada already has visas to attract talent. Immigration isn't the problem. The problem is that talent has nothing to work on in Canada and there isn't sufficient capital to grow and commercialize R&D intensive industries.

Trump Imposes Surprise 50% Tariffs on Canada on Monday — Didn’t Mention Them to Carney at World Cup Final on Sunday On July 20, President Trump imposed new 50% tariffs on certain Canadian imports — including wine, hockey sticks, and cement — to address ongoing discrimination against U.S. products. The measures take effect in 30 days, with exemptions for energy, fish, and critical minerals. (Video: AI) A senior administration official stated: “These are defensive measures by the United States taken to remedy discriminatory actions by Canada.” They added, “This is not a trade war with Canada,” noting the effort to balance trade amid a $46.4 billion U.S. goods trade deficit with Canada in 2025. Trump did not mention the tariffs in his discussion with Prime Minister Mark Carney at the World Cup final the previous day. “Although the president and the prime minister met and they had a one-on-one, it was not a visit to talk about trade and tariffs from our perspective,” the official clarified. Firm action by Trump on trade priorities.

Reminder that trade genius Howard Lutnick BELIEVED CANADA DIDN’T HAVE UNIONS. He actually said that. And he claimed that's why auto mfrs "moved" there. (Canada has: ✅always had a huge auto industry, and ✅yes has unions.) THIS is the mental wattage working on Canada-US trade👇
