Nemsas I am writing with a heavy heart because i lost a brother in a car accident yesterday in Abuja where allegedly the fire truck hit their car and left them dead. No Ambulance reached them, no help offered. I had made this video today create awareness on Basic Life Support for the public, not knowing that my dear Bappah was one of the victims 😭💔. It is time that we must actively be seen improving our emergency care services in the country. We cannot have 112 that doesn’t respond, Ambulances that are empty, personnel’s not trained in emergency care, and hospitals without dedicated emergency medical services. Only UCH Ibadan has accreditation for emergency medicine training. We must expand this. We must teach and train people, the public on emergency response. Creating protective laws such as the “good samaritan law” so that first responders are protected from lawsuits will also go a long way. A 22-year-old passenger was allegedly stabbed to death inside a first-class compartment of a Churchgate-Nallasopara fast local train following an argument over keeping the coach door open during heavy rain, police said. The victim, identified as Mayank Lohar, a resident of Virar, was travelling in the first-class coach of Train No. 90663, when the incident occurred between Andheri and Borivali stations. Lohar worked as a salesman for a private company in Andheri and was returning home from work at the time of the incident. According to the Government Railway Police (GRP), Lohar and the accused were travelling in the same first-class compartment after the train departed Churchgate at 10:05 p.m. As heavy rain lashed the city, Lohar reportedly asked the accused to close the coach door. The request allegedly led to a heated argument between the two passengers. During the altercation, the accused allegedly pulled out a sharp weapon and stabbed Lohar in the abdomen, inflicting serious injuries. The train reached Borivali Station's Platform No. 6 at 11:04 p.m. Police said the accused jumped from the moving train near the platform before it came to a complete halt and fled from the station premises. Western Railway said its emergency response system was activated immediately after information about the incident was received. Within three minutes of the train's arrival, personnel from the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and GRP reached the coach and attended to the injured passenger. A stretcher, porter and medical team were rushed to the compartment. A dispute over closing the door of a Mumbai local train during heavy rain turned deadly late Monday night when a 22-year-old passenger was allegedly stabbed to death by a fellow commuter inside a first-class coach, police said. The incident took place aboard the Churchgate-Nallasopara Fast Local between Andheri and Borivali stations. The victim, identified as Mayank Ramesh Lohar, and the accused had boarded the first-class coach at Andheri and were travelling in the same compartment when a dispute reportedly broke out over whether the train door should be kept open or shut amid the downpour. According to the Government Railway Police (GRP), the argument soon turned violent, with the accused allegedly pulling out a knife and stabbing Lohar in the abdomen inside the moving train. The attack left the 22-year-old critically injured. As the train approached Borivali station around 11 pm, the accused allegedly jumped off before it came to a complete halt at Platform No. 6 and fled the scene. The train arrived at Borivali station at 11.04 pm, following which Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel, GRP officials and medical teams rushed to the coach. Lohar was taken out of the compartment and shifted for emergency treatment. Doctors examined him at the station's Emergency Medical Room at around 11.22 pm and declared him dead. His body was later shifted to Shatabdi Hospital in Kandivali for further legal procedures. Borivali GRP has registered a case and launched a search operation to trace the accused, whose identity is yet to be established. Officials said CCTV footage and other evidence from the station and train were secured immediately and handed over to investigating agencies. Senior Western Railway officials also reached Borivali station after the incident and reviewed the response and security arrangements. WHO delivers health supplies to Al-Shifa Hospital, appeals for continued access to address urgent needs in north #Gaza WHO staff participated in a joint UN mission to Al-Shifa Hospital in north Gaza on 16 December to deliver health supplies and assess the situation in the facility. Partners on today’s mission included OCHA, UNDSS, and UNMAS. The team delivered medicines and surgical supplies, orthopedic surgery equipment, and anesthesia materials and drugs to the hospital. Al-Shifa Hospital, currently minimally functional, needs to urgently resume at least basic operations to continue serving the thousands in need of lifesaving health care.Once the most important and largest referral hospital in Gaza, Al-Shifa now houses only a handful of doctors and a few nurses, together with 70 volunteers, working under what WHO staff described as “unbelievably challenging circumstances" and calling it a “hospital in need of resuscitation.” The operating theatres and other major services remain nonfunctional due to a lack of fuel, oxygen, specialized medical staff, and supplies. The hospital is only able to provide basic trauma stabilization, has no blood for transfusion, and hardly any staff to care for the constant flow of patients. Dialysis is being provided to approximately 30 patients a day, with the dialysis machines operating 24 hours a day, seven days a week, using a small generator.The team described the emergency department as a “bloodbath”, with hundreds of injured patients inside and new patients arriving every minute. Patients with trauma injuries were being sutured on the floor, and limited to no pain management is available at the hospital. WHO staff said that the emergency department is so full that care must be exercised to not step on patients on the floor. Critical patients are being transferred to Al-Ahli Arab Hospital for surgeries. Tens of thousands of displaced people are using the hospital building and grounds for shelter. A multi-pronged humanitarian response is needed to provide them with food, water and shelter. Many of them asked our team to tell the world what is happening in the hope that their suffering might soon be eased. Al-Shifa Hospital continues to experience a severe shortage of food and safe water for health workers, patients, and displaced people. This reflects grave and growing concerns around persistent hunger across the Gaza Strip, and the consequences of malnutrition on people’s health and susceptibility to infectious diseases. WHO is committed to strengthening Al-Shifa Hospital in the coming weeks, so that it can resume at least basic functionality and continue to provide the lifesaving services that are needed at this critical time. Up to 20 operating theatres in the hospital, as well as post-operative care services, can be activated if provided with regular supplies of fuel, oxygen, medicines, food, and water. Substantial additional specialized medical, nursing and support staff, including emergency medical teams, are also urgently needed.Currently, Al-Ahli Arab Hospital remains the only partially functional hospital in north Gaza, along with three minimally functional hospitals—Al-Shifa, Al Awda and Al Sahaba Medical Complex—down from 24 before the conflict. WHO is also gravely concerned about the unfolding situation at Kamal Adwan Hospital and is gathering information urgently. As hostilities continue and health needs across the Gaza Strip increase, Al-Shifa Hospital, a cornerstone of Gaza’s health system, must be urgently restored so that it can serve besieged people trapped in a cycle of death, destruction, hunger, and disease.

Al-Shifa Hospital, currently minimally functional, needs to urgently resume at least basic operations to continue serving the thousands in need of lifesaving health care.Once the most important and largest referral hospital in Gaza, Al-Shifa now houses only a handful of doctors and a few nurses, together with 70 volunteers, working under what WHO staff described as “unbelievably challenging circumstances" and calling it a “hospital in need of resuscitation.” The operating theatres and other major services remain nonfunctional due to a lack of fuel, oxygen, specialized medical staff, and supplies. The hospital is only able to provide basic trauma stabilization, has no blood for transfusion, and hardly any staff to care for the constant flow of patients. Dialysis is being provided to approximately 30 patients a day, with the dialysis machines operating 24 hours a day, seven days a week, using a small generator.The team described the emergency department as a “bloodbath”, with hundreds of injured patients inside and new patients arriving every minute. Patients with trauma injuries were being sutured on the floor, and limited to no pain management is available at the hospital. WHO staff said that the emergency department is so full that care must be exercised to not step on patients on the floor. Critical patients are being transferred to Al-Ahli Arab Hospital for surgeries. Tens of thousands of displaced people are using the hospital building and grounds for shelter. A multi-pronged humanitarian response is needed to provide them with food, water and shelter. Many of them asked our team to tell the world what is happening in the hope that their suffering might soon be eased. Al-Shifa Hospital continues to experience a severe shortage of food and safe water for health workers, patients, and displaced people. This reflects grave and growing concerns around persistent hunger across the Gaza Strip, and the consequences of malnutrition on people’s health and susceptibility to infectious diseases. WHO is committed to strengthening Al-Shifa Hospital in the coming weeks, so that it can resume at least basic functionality and continue to provide the lifesaving services that are needed at this critical time. Up to 20 operating theatres in the hospital, as well as post-operative care services, can be activated if provided with regular supplies of fuel, oxygen, medicines, food, and water. Substantial additional specialized medical, nursing and support staff, including emergency medical teams, are also urgently needed.Currently, Al-Ahli Arab Hospital remains the only partially functional hospital in north Gaza, along with three minimally functional hospitals—Al-Shifa, Al Awda and Al Sahaba Medical Complex—down from 24 before the conflict. WHO is also gravely concerned about the unfolding situation at Kamal Adwan Hospital and is gathering information urgently. As hostilities continue and health needs across the Gaza Strip increase, Al-Shifa Hospital, a cornerstone of Gaza’s health system, must be urgently restored so that it can serve besieged people trapped in a cycle of death, destruction, hunger, and disease.

#WATCH | Uttarakhand: A swift and timely intervention by an Indian Army Medical Officer helped save the life of a road accident victim on the Banbasa–Champawat road near Sukhidhang on 8 July 26. At approximately 11:05 a.m., Major General V. K. Patra of the Indian Army was travelling from Bareilly to Pithoragarh when he noticed a group of people gathered around a motorcyclist lying motionless on the road, about 2 km before the Chalthi turn near Sukhidhang. Bystanders informed him that the victim had succumbed to his injuries. Drawing upon his medical expertise, Major General Patra immediately examined the victim and found him to be unresponsive, with no palpable pulse and no spontaneous breathing. Recognising the situation as a cardiac arrest, he promptly initiated Basic Life Support (BLS) in accordance with established resuscitation protocols. He instructed his co-driver, an Army soldier, to assist by providing rescue breaths while he continued high-quality chest compressions. After approximately two minute of continuous cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), the victim regained spontaneous circulation and breathing. Suspecting an associated head injury, Major General Patra carefully placed the patient in the recovery position to maintain a patent airway and minimise the risk of aspiration in the event of vomiting. Appreciating the seriousness of the injuries, Major General Patra simultaneously coordinated for an Army ambulance from Banbasa Cantonment. An Army Medical Officer and medical team arrived promptly, and the victim was stabilised and evacuated to the nearest Primary Health Centre for further management. Meanwhile, personnel of Dial-112 from Chalthi Police Outpost reached the scene and contacted the victim’s family using his mobile phone. The injured person was identified as Laxman Singh, son of Bishan Singh, a resident of Budhabagh, Chakarpur, Khatima, aged about 40 years, who was travelling with relatives to Lohaghat for worship when the accident occurred. The incident highlights the critical importance of immediate bystander intervention and the lifesaving value of Basic Life Support and CPR during the golden minutes following cardiac arrest. It also reflects the unwavering commitment of the Indian Army and its medical fraternity to preserving life—not only on the battlefield but also in civil emergencies—demonstrating that every trained soldier and military medical professional can make the difference between life and death. On May 19, 2024, in support of the Armed Forces of the Philippines, the Commandant of the Philippine Coast Guard, Admiral Ronnie Gil Gavan decisively deployed the High Speed Response Boat (HSRB) from Buliluyan Port to rendezvous with the Philippine Navy Rigid Hull Inflatable Boat (RHIB) carrying sick personnel for immediate medical evacuation. During our attempt to bring the PCG HSRB alongside the PN RHIB at the rendezvous point, we were harassed by vessels and small boats from the China Coast Guard through blocking operations. Despite informing the Chinese Coast Guard via radio and public address system about the humanitarian nature of our mission for medical evacuation, they still engaged in dangerous maneuvers and even intentionally rammed the PN RHIB while transporting the sick personnel. The barbaric and inhumane behavior displayed by the China Coast Guard has no place in our society. What should have been a simple medical evacuation operation was subjected to harassment, with the excessive deployment of two China Coast Guard vessels (21551 and 21555), two small boats, and two rubber boats. Their actions clearly demonstrated their intention to prevent the sick personnel from receiving the proper medical attention he urgently needed. Despite the challenges posed by the interference from the CCG, the PN and PCG displayed remarkable cooperation, professionalism, and determination. They successfully outmaneuvered the numerous CCG assets and completed the transfer of the sick personnel, ensuring their safe arrival at Buliluyan Port. At 1515H on 19 May 2024, the sick AFP personnel was transported to the nearest hospital and received immediate medical attention.
