The servers response is the best, he was stumbling with his words a bit and got the costumer so confused to the point they didn't know what to say anymore themselves. Even if it wasn't intentional it was greatly effective. Bang on.

I wouldn’t acknowledge his presence until he takes off the headphones (you’re in a restaurant, so show some manners) and covers that gut (because other people are losing their appetites).
