.Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent: "We have to bring this down gradually because we want to do two things: we want to cut and constrain spending AND we want to grow the economy — and what Senator Rand Paul is advocating could cause a sudden stop in the economy. I'm...

Bessent’s right—sudden stops crash economies, but “gradual” can’t mean kicking the can. Bidenomics hooked DC on $2T/year foreign aid binges while infrastructure crumbled. The Supreme Court blocking Trump’s USAID freeze proves judicial overreach enables waste. Realism? Start by torching Biden-era slush funds propping up globalist pet projects. Permanent cuts, not performative trims. Every dollar redirected from foreign handouts to American industry is a step toward detox. But if “gradual” means bureaucrats keep their pork, then it’s just another Washington lie.

@SecScottBessent @SenRandPaul Rand Paul is absolutely worthless. He never does anything except talk. We need someone else in his place.

@SecScottBessent @SenRandPaul Scott is a voice of reason amidst chaos and confusion being sewn. Cut the pork in the bill. Pass the bill. Codify doge cuts.

@SecScottBessent @SenRandPaul He sounds smart, and I understand “gradual”, and that’s exactly what messaging should sound like because America is full of people who are short-sighted. Example: Trump says “tariffs” and markets drop 20%, even unaffected businesses. Having said that, they need to find cuts fast

@SecScottBessent @SenRandPaul How can you cut taxes and not cut spending?

@SecScottBessent @SenRandPaul Scott Bessent’s point highlights the delicate balance policymakers face: cutting spending without derailing growth. It’s a reminder that bold moves need careful timing too sudden, and the economy risks a harsh shock. Realism often means pacing change, even if frustration builds.

@SecScottBessent @SenRandPaul The original goal of the DOGE was to cut $2T in waste from the federal budget & get us back within the range of the pre-COVID levels of spending. I just don't know if that's even possible, due to the crazy amount of inflation we've seen these last four years.
