Trick Weekes describes another rule they follow when writing Solas (which explains why players have had completely opposite reactions to him)

1) this makes so many fan arguments make sense 2) the idea that players who don't like Solas are just arrogant themselves is so lmaoo 3) another point in the endless cascade of evidence for the theory that Solas is a spirit of Wisdom/Pride who is changed by your energy

you can literally hear the interviewers gasping because this is evidence for the Wisdom/Pride theory, and they even say, "this is uh... evidence for a certain fan theory, omg" in response.

I finally understood what they were yelling in that [incomprehensible yelling] part - It's "You shouldn't be that arrogant! ARgh!!" which hmmmmmm now why would Solas be aggro about seeing someone prideful and immediately want to yell that they shouldn't be so prideful...?

You can see this in practice with how he reacts with Cassandra vs Vivienne. Neither of them have opinions that he agrees with, yet he’s much more civil with Cassandra because she’s much less arrogant than Viv.

Ohhh DAMN also (sorry for spam, but this just got me thinking) - at the end of the break up scene, no matter how you act (sad, angry, cold, detached) he WILL RESPOND SADLY. No matter what!!! Which is a HUGE deal imo, because it’s one of the rare occasions he’s NOT mirroring!

That tracks, tbh. I didn't much like Solas, and I am definitely arrogant, at least at times. It's probably one of my least appealing traits, so 'people are annoyed at Solas because he reflects that trait back at you' genuinely does track.

"solas mirrors" oh? perhaps?? like spirits of the fade, whose essences are changed the more they interact with beings not of the fade???? THAT sort of mirroring??? HMM???? VIBRATES FASTER THAN THE SPEED OF LIGHT

I also find this interesting, as yes, while my Lavellan’s curiosity and kindness to him has him googoo eyed before we even leave the Hinterlands, on the few occasions she does get sassy with him (which I love, because I do be loving my feisty characters) he def sasses back, but-

As an autistic person who loves knowledgeable and wise people the most, but also people who are considerate and responsible, who can admit their mistakes and the fact they're flawed... Solas would literally be the perfect match for me. I love him so much, and so does my Inky. 🥺
