If you're in Asia, elderly will touch your kids as it's a normal custom to show affections to younger generation. And as asian they should have known about this customs. Although touching the head is inappropriate for most customs, the elderly can do it as they are more senior.

I think the father just try to protect his daughter and other side the old man just touch the kids head for a gesture we do when we see little kid. It turns out big misunderstanding lead to somehow old man fell down.

Typical over protective & entitled parents who hv strong believe that everyone should stay away or must get consent even for slightest interaction with their kids. Gone were the days when old uncles aunties in our community who treated us like their kids. Good luck world!

That's a normal thing to do for some elderly people in Asia to pat the head of a child - be it a boy or girl - that they find cute. It's very innocent and the father as$jerk over reacted.
